Food and wine regains sense of place for Picnic at Marble Hill

On Saturday November 28, 2009, food and wine enthusiasts will come together for a spectacular gourmet picnic at the ruins of the Governor’s former summer residence at Marble Hill, just 15kms east of Adelaide’s CBD.

To the sounds of live music, visitors on the day will be free to purchase sumptuous ingredients for the creation of their own picnic from over 30 stalls to be run by the region’s leading artisans. They will then be able to share their picnic with family and friends while enjoying some of the state’s most commanding views.

Winemaking legends Henschke and Ashton Hills, alongside rising stars Ngeringa, Lucy Margaux Vineyard and Whisson Lake, will offer tastings that celebrate their shared vision of single vineyard winemaking.

This event will also represent the revival of the traditional Basket Range Cherry Blossom Festival (an annual event that ended with the bushfires of 1955) and members of the Cherry Growers Association of South Australia will be present to show the first fruit of the harvest as well as their other delectable cherry-based foods.

Over-18s will pay $15 at the gate –and receive a complimentary Oxfam picnic basket- while children are free. A bouncy castle will be provided for under-12s.

Our niece died of Ovarian Cancer just 18mths ago.

She was just 24 years old.

I am a Breast Cancer survivor and our cause gets so much media attention, which is fantastic BUT the silent killer Ovarian Cancer is largely forgotten.

I promised my niece's parents I would help to promote awareness. I joined a small group at the Royal Adelaide Hospital as their volunteer Public Relations officer to promote their cause which is to raise funds for the RAH Women's Health unit to help fund a counsellor for those diagnosed with this rotten disease.

We only have ONE event a year . We encourage all the Adelaide community to walk with us on the 15th November?

Please help. Our Fun Walk is in less than 3 weeks time and we need Adelaide to support us and their local causes. I would be so grateful if we could arrange an interview in person or over the phone. I wait in appreciation and with anticipation.

OC Challenge Fun Walk on Sunday 15th November leaving Semaphore foreshore walking along the stunning boardwalk to Largs Bay Sailing club and retuning. Cost is only $15. Funds raised stay in SA for the RAH Women's Health Unit supporting women diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. It's at 9.30am for a 10am start. Details on www.everydayhero.com.au and click on to OC Challenge or call the RAH on 8222 5281 and register before the day.
