The X-Files: I Want to Believe
Vancouver set visit

Words: Simon Graham-Clare

The truth, as they say, is out there and after a ten year wait you will be able to discover it for yourself when the second X-Files movie hits screens in July 2008. This hugely anticipated second instalment has been shrouded in mystery with rumours about the plot and even its title, running rife across the internet.

Until now that is.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe, is the official title of the movie that will bring two of the most well known characters in television history back together on the big screen and after getting a sneak peak of the new movie earlier this year, we believe!

In February we were invited to visit the set of the new X-Files movie in Vancouver, where we were lucky enough to witness a scene being shot and meet with Director Chris Cater and his two iconic lead actors David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully).

Although the trio remained tight-lipped on the details of the plot, we are able to shed some light on some of the unanswered questions that fans have been asking since this eagerly awaited sequel was announced.

According to David Duchovny the reason that the plot has not yet been revealed is "to give audiences an experience of surprise, which is so hard to do with movie trailers".

For Chris Carter there is a somewhat different explanation "We are trying to scare the pants off of you". And it does feel like this movie will be very frightening as David Duchovny explains: "This sequel is very scary. It is pretty dark and there is some nasty stuff going on. There is some twisted, weird danger".

For those who are not familiar with the X-Files Carter explains that this film really is for all audiences. "We do a really good job of presenting the characters and the whole idea of the X-Files to a whole new audience. It is funny because I realize there are kids in college who now say: Oh yes, my parents used to watch the X-Files or I never watched the X-Files, I was too young, my parents wouldn't let me watch it!. So I think there is a new audience to introduce it to, and I hope that we are doing a good job of giving them what they want and what they deserve".
