Want to lessen your impact on the world? Here's ten tips to get you started so you can make a difference.
1. Change your light bulbs
Replacing just one regular light bulb with a compact flourescent one will save 70kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year.
2. Drive less
Walk, cycle, carpool or take public transport more often. You'll save almost half a kilo of CO2 for every kilometre you don't drive.
3. Recycle more
You can save about a tonne of CO2 a year just by recycling half your household waste.
4. Check your tyres
Keep them properly inflated and enjoy an improvement in your fuel economy. Every litre of petrol saved keeps 5kg of CO2 out of our atmosphere.
5. Avoid products with a lot of packaging
You can save 545kg of CO2 if you cut your rubbish by 10%.
6. Adjust your heater and air-con
Tweaking the temperature down by just 2 degrees in winter and 2 degrees up in summer could save you about 900kg of CO2 a year.
7. Plant a tree
A single tree can absorb around a tonne of CO2 over its lifetime!
8. Don't remain on standby
Switching off your TV, DVD player, stereo and computer at the unit when you're not using them will save you tonnes of CO2 annually.
9. Switch to green electricity

10. Go carbon neutral
You can offset your greenhouse emissions by purchasing carbon neutral products. The Australian Conservation Foundation has a directory of carbon neutral providers.
