Vanessa's album track-by-track:
Start It "An R&B/rock sing-along with a gospel chorus. It's a call to arms, stop talking, do something. Inspired by the bloopers in a certain world leader's speech."
Perfect "A guitar ballad with a classic melody. It sounds romantic but it's actually about being obsessive about your love interest!"
Little Love "Dave Tyson and I were fooling around with grooves, and this came out sounding like a marching band! It worked so beautifully."
Kiss Your Mama! "The reaction from the media and fans was: 'We knew you would come up with something soulful and rocky!' It was the track that took the longest to get right."
The Simple Things "A lovely ballad from Pam Reswick. She's amazing: she woke up at 4am and had come up with the hook and the arrangement by the time we had breakfast."
Somewhere In The Real World "We'd finished writing for the night, when Ron Aniello started to play some chords and this came right away. The words are so important, so I kept it very simple."
19 Turning Point "Very heavy and dynamic. An MK19 is a missile launcher. When I was 19, I was throwing grenades and trying to break down barriers."
Send Me The Manual "A strong melody drives this; we used a touch of strings. Wouldn't we have coped better with life if we were born with a 'how to' manual?"
I Thought We'd Stay Together "Ron left a phone message asking - over this soul rock groove - why I hadn't delivered a riff I promised him. That's because I was busy evicting people from my house! I fell in love with the groove."
My House "Such a great groove, a cheeky track full of innuendo."
Fire "A couple of months ago, I went to LA for three days to finish the album, instead I wrote seven more songs. This is soul/funk with a dose of rock that was very spontaneous."
Who Am I "A soul ballad, which I wrote for Josh Abrahams. We were both going through rough times; I wanted to let him know he was not alone."
