Bon Scott, We Remember You Post by: Eddie Ruckus & Dave-O 18 February, 2010 - 4:34 PM

It’s exactly 30 years since we lost the great Bon Scott at the age of only 33. But even today, as his former outfit remains arguably the biggest rock band on the planet, people everywhere remember Bon in their own way.

To this day Bon has hardcore fans that keep his name and spirit alive. James Young, an AC/DC collector who also owns the Cherry Bar in AC/DC Lane exclusively lent us letters written by Bon to his wife Irene Thornton when he was living in St Kilda, Melbourne in 1975.

Bon's Private Love Letters

Bon talks about a song called "High Voltage Rock'N'Roll", what his mum thinks about his lyrics and what he really thinks of Skyhooks!

If you've never seen footage of Bon in action, we've uncovered a rare gem (see video above) from the band's tour of Britain in 1976. In an interview with ABC's Countdown, Bon is seen wandering around Covent Garden in very tight denim shorts replete with a banana hanging out the top.

It's clear from the clip that Bon is the star of the show, as he injects his trademark wit into answering all manner of questions from a suitably uptight British reporter.

It’s one of the true tragedies of Oz rock that for all Bon’s brilliance and hard work, AC/DC didn’t crack the big time until just after his death.

Brian Johnson recently told a journalist that the band planned to pay their own respects to their former comrade when they hit Perth in a couple of weeks.

“We’re [want] do something that’s not too morbid,” Johnson said. “His two nephews and his brother will be in Perth, and we’ll see his mum. The fans will be out in force with Bon paraphernalia and we welcome that because he’s still a part of the band, he’s still a part of us.”

Please share your thoughts on the great Bon Scott.

I have been an AC/DC fan for as long as I remember. Have been to every tour since 88 and went to all 3 Melb shows. Every night they blew me away and are still as awesome as they have ever been.

Brian is one hell of a great performer and Angus is not only brilliant on stage but he is a great guy.

I have been lucky enough to meet him a couple of times and each time he was more than generous with his time stopping to sign autographs and pose for photos.

    AC/DC I SALUTE YOU!

There's a line I read one day, that a petal from a rose hit the floor without a sound the day that Bon died. I've given this a lot of thought and it's pretty profound.

They had a short tour with the then monster band in the US called Journey, if you open their live album Captured inside it reads this album is dedicated to Bon, a friend from the highway.

To think he influenced one of the biggest bands in the land in the space of some 6 weeks is not only extraordinary but somewhat remarkable.

Bon not only rocked the world of musos but the ordinary fans like ourselves.

    "Ride on Bon"

    Thanks,
    Danny from Lilydale.

The Spirit of Bon, Will Forever, RIDE ON!

Bon Scott is certainly one of the greatest rock'n'roll frontmen and songwriters of all time. His charisma on stage, his fabulous lyrics and his unique voice have touched the hearts and souls of millions of people worldwide.

Bon Scott inspired me so deeply that I wrote a song about him titled "Women, Whiskey & Rock'n'Roll" that has received air play in 27 countries including Australia.

He will always be missed and forever embraced!

    RIP Ronald Belford Scott!
    Cheers from Canada.

No other rock outfit stirs the blood the way AC/DC fronted by Bon Scott does!

His legacy is true spirit of ball busting, gutsy, gritty Australian Rock n' Roll Genius. It is missed sooooo much; may the Bon recordings play on...

It was early 1975 Festival Hall Melbourne, the Darwin relief concert (Cyclone Tracey). I was 15yrs old I saw Hush, Kush & many others, but the Band that I will never forget was AC/DC.

Angus climbing all over the Marshall Stacks & BON singing all their early releases, She Got Balls, School Days, High Voltage, Can I Sit Next to You Girl, and a heap more.

Bon we loved you then & 35 years later we still do.

    RIP. ROCK IN PEACE
