Cold Chisel's Brush With The Law Post by: Dave-O 3 September, 2010 - 8:21 AM

As one of our biggest rock legends Jimmy Barnes has been on planes a lot. He travels for fun, he travels for work. So Triple M's The Grill Team asked him if he had any dodgy travel stories.

And, indeed, Barnesy had this beauty about Cold Chisel's brush with the law during their first ever tour of the US.

"[Cold Chisel drummer] Steve Prestwich was such a bad traveller he'd just get bloody hammered, really pissed," Barnesy remembers.

"And about halfway through the trip he starts trying to grope the air hostess. So they gave him a sleeping tablet [to try and calm him down] but it made him worse.

"By the time we get off the plane he's walking around going 'I don't wanna be in this bloody country, I hate bloody yanks'. He was just going nuts!

"So we immediately went to different queues and we're watching him. He's got his ghetto blaster and he's right up to the queue and suddenly he picks up his ghetto blaster up above his head and smashes it to the ground.

"He's screaming 'I don't want to come to this country'. And the American customs are just looking at him going 'what's goin' on?'. So he's obviously in the 'too hard' basket so they just went stamp, stamp and let him go straight through!"

Jimmy Barnes Rage And Ruin is out now.
