Guitarist Joe Satriani ’s lawsuit against Coldplay came to a sudden end in Los Angeles yesterday, suggesting the two parties have settled out of court.

You’ll remember Satriani was at the head of a long queue of songwriters claiming that Coldplay had ripped off bits of their songs for their “Viva La Vida” single.

But Satriani was the only one to take the matter to court, claiming that Coldplay had ripped off his 2004 song “If I Could Fly”. His lawyers were demanding a jury trial, damages and “any and all profits attributable to the alleged copyright infringement”.

Suddenly yesterday, a judge in the California Central District Court dismissed the case “upon stipulation”, which usually means the warring parties have settled out of court.

If Coldplay have in fact paid Satriani to go away, does that mean they’ll do the same with everyone else who claimed to have been ripped off?

Coldplay are currently back home in the UK and this week perform two shows at Wembley Stadium to wrap up their year-long world tour.

Meanwhile. Satriani has been touring the US with almost-supergroup Chickenfoot alongside the Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and a couple of ex-Van Halen dudes.

Wow, do you reckon Coldplay have opened up a can of lawsuit whoopee?

  What a classic! it does sound similar but not sure if it's a total rip-off.

  I mean Coldplay's version topped the charts while Satriani's version didn't.

  To me this proves that Coldplay didn't have a case to answer for and bailed as quickly as possible i.e THEY'RE CHEATS.
  

  Coldplay are pathetic, their sound was so boring and repetitive when they started (Yellow anyone?).

  The only way they could compete with talented musicians is to steal their work. Useless idiots.

  wow, that sort of works well for you, if you don't like my comments here's something i can suggest: DON'T READ THEM. It's a novel idea i know, but go on, give it a go.

  While you're locked in your room hosting your 'We Love Coldplay So Much We Don't Understand Real Music Fan Club' with you and your stuffed animals, hop on your computer and listen to real music being played by real musicians. Try Janes Addiction or The Creepshow to get you started, they're not too heavy for you.

  It's a novel idea, I know, but why not give it a go? If you're as sad as you seem then I know it would be hard for you not to spend your time reading comments that people have left in response to your own, but seriously, give it a go. You'll like it.

  As for Jane's Addiction or the Creepshow, I suggest you actually go see Coldplay, hopefully they're not too awesome for you.
