Coldplay: What About Us? Post by: Music 19 February, 2009 - 7:00 AM

In the lead up to this morning's BRIT awards, Chris Martin has revealed the band is planning to record a new live album which it will give away for nothing to fans attending their concerts.

“What we want to do is try to give away a live album for free,” Martin told The Sun newspaper in London. “We’re playing a lot of shows in the summer and I think what we would like to do is – bearing in mind the recession we’re in – record the live album then give it as a gift. It’s a way of saying thank you. It’s a tough economy and people are paying a lot of money for tickets.”

Awww – isn’t that nice? But what about us, ya bastards? Of course, Coldplay arrive in Australia next week to start their national tour, but there’s no talk about giving their fans over here something for nothing. Na – don’t worry about us, Chris. We’re swimming in cash. Here, take some more of our money – we don’t need it. We’ve all got jobs … for this week.

We’d hate to jinx them, but Coldplay are up for four BRIT Awards at this morning’s ceremony over in London, where they’re set to perform alongside U2 and Kings Of Leon, with Kylie hosting.

Should we demand a free album from Coldplay? Should we put a hex on the band if they don't cough up? Any suggestions?

If you actually do a bit of research into this claim, you'll find that the Live Album is yet to be produced, and if it goes ahead it would most likely be given away at their stadium tours later in the year (not the current Viva La Vida tour).
