Eskimo Joe Ready To Conquer The World Post by: Music 8 April, 2009 - 7:19 AM
While virtually everyone back here at home is flipping out over the new Eskimo Joe single, "Foreign Land", Fremantle’s finest have been over in Europe since their Sound Relief appearance, laying down the foundations for world domination.
Currently in the UK, band members have started revealing some of the secrets behind their up-coming new album, Inshalla. Like, for instance, where on Earth did they get that name?
“In the very early stage of writing the album, our singer [Kav Temperley] spent five days in Egypt,” guitarist Joel Quartermain explained to a British journo. “He heard everyone saying this word ‘inshalla’, which literally translates to ‘god willing’ but can be interpreted a number of ways.
“For us, it is more about being resigned to fate and accepting what will be will be. It was a turning point for the band when we decided to ease off control and let fate take over. And, of course, it’s a beautiful word which is another reason why we chose it.”
Joel went on to explain that “this album brought us back home, but we are at a different stage in our lives now which is why the songs are lighter, but it’s actually much more difficult to create happier songs without sounding cheesy, so we are very pleased with the sound and how the new album has turned out.”
The trio will briefly be home next month to play the Ripe Festival in Noosa on May 5, before heading back over to Europe for some even bigger shows in the middle of the year.
What do you think of the album name, Inshalla? Which is your favourite Eskimo Joe album so far?
