Killer Disses Nirvana, KoL Post by: Music 8 April, 2009 - 7:18 AM
Is it just us, or has The Killers’ Brandon Flowers purposely gone out crusin’ for a brusin’ lately?
First there was all his whining about “Oh, I’m a Mormon and everyone hates me” rant. Then there was the whole “Oh, poor little ol’ me, it’s so hard being in a rock star” rap.
Now, Mr Flowers has seen fit to use this week’s 15th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death as an opportunity to take a pot-shot at dead heroes, too.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper in the UK, the almighty Flowers explained: “I don’t mean it in a bad way, but I think Kurt Cobain and grunge took the fun out of rock & roll.”
Oh, really? The hundreds of thousands of fans who saw Nirvana play back in the day would probably have a different opinion, Flowers.
But the singer didn’t stop there. He somehow managed to blame Kings Of Leon for The Killers’ latest album being a relative flop back home in the US.
“Everywhere but America our new album Day & Age has grabbed people,” he said. “We’re learning that they like the guitar Killers, whereas … the rest of the world have got this more melodic pop-orientated album. Kings Of Leon filled that guitar spot nicely in America but they don’t have a song like ‘Human’.”
We don’t mean this in a bad way, Brandon, but perhaps you should keep your big Morman head in check, mate.
What do you think is Brandon Flowers' problem?

Brandon's just calling it as he sees it.
He's a legend.

Exactly. It's his opinion and he's entitled to it.
Grunge did have an affect on rock and roll you can't argue that.
What's wrong with a bit of rivalry between bands as well.

Yes, both have a place in musical history, but come on, Nirvana wins hands down.
Not only because they were unique & to this day are imitated (early Silverchair), revered and Still Influence & inspire all musicians everywhere.
Many people didn't understand the Energy, Complexity & Passion of Nirvana's music and some never will!

WHAT A MEDIA BEAT UP!
Seems to me that Brandon has been taken out of context and his comments exagerrated.
I don't think his comment about Nirvana as 'taking the fun out' is an absolute criticism. The grunge movement was charged on melancholy, darkness, and gloom. So his comments aren't that far from the truth.
Get over it and cut the crap. Music is not a sporting match where you can have an argument on which band wins. It's an art form.
Both bands are great, in their own genres.

I love The Killers but sometimes Brandon should learn to shut his mouth and stop complaining.
And hands down, Nirvana were way better than The Killers will ever be... and Kings Of Leon are better than The Killers for that matter.

I agree with Maisy. The smarter public are used to media beat ups and can take what is said with a spoonful of sugar.
It's just a shame that there's a lower common denominater that will take media opinion as Gospel.
I read the full interviews with Brandon that you were speaking of and you did take it out of context.
It's funny that you would call someone a hater whilst doing the same thing. That's called hypocritical in case you were wondering.

He's a moron, not just a stupid morman.
I won't ever buy any Killers songs, if I like a song I'll download it for free and listen to it begrudglingly.
