Them Crooked Vultures Live Debut Post by: Eddie Ruckus - Rockin' Blogger 11 August, 2009 - 7:10 AM
Dave Grohl’s new band, Them Crooked Vultures, made a phenomenal live debut in Chicago in the early hours of Monday morning, with fans and critics raving as if the trio has reinvented rock & roll.
The new supergroup, which also features Led Zep’s John Paul Jones and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, played a set of all-new songs to a tiny packed club in Chicago called The Metro.
The band’s 80-minute set featured 12 new songs, with Homme on guitar and lead vocals, Grohl on drums and Jones on bass and keys. The band was joined on stage Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Alain Johannes.
One reviewer described the sound as “hard rock and hard edges, with Jones and Grohl going toe-to-toe in the engine room”.
It’s been reported that the band was offered a spot on the Lollapalooza show that took place in Chicago on the same day, but chose to make its debut in front of 1,100 lucky fans in a club instead.
A reporter from Rolling Stone wrote that he had a text conversation with Grohl a few hours before the show in which the drummer said: “I’ve had one of those everlasting boners that they warn you about on the Viagra commercials for the past 6 months. No worries. It’ll go down once I blow my load all over the Metro.”
From all reports, that’s exactly what he and his band did.
Here’s the setlist from the show:
Elephants
New Fang
Scumbag Blues
Dead End Friends
Bandoliers
Mind Eraser
Gunman
Daffodils
Interlude w/ Ludes
Caligulove
Warsaw
Nobodys Loves Me
More Music
Oh my God, can you wait to hear this band play live?

Can't wait to see 'em here in Australia.
Maybe they'll play the Big Day Out? How good would that be!
