Mike Hussey - Mr Cricket
Mike Hussey spoke to John and Jane about his new autobiography, Mr. Cricket.
Mike Hussey is proving to be quite the barometer for the Australian Test side - he's yet to play in a losing one, and with each passing hundred and not out innings his average of runs per wicket approaches Bradman-esque status.
No wonder they call him Mr. Cricket.
It took him a long while to break into the Australian Test side, but part of that delay really allowed him to focus on and learn his own game - so much so that when he did debut for the Australian side in November, 2005, it took him merely two Tests before he cracked his first hundred, and he was named Man of the Match against the West Indies at Bellerive.
Since then he's made another 6 in a mere 18 Tests (to go along with 8 50s), with a highest score of 182, most coming with a shift down the batting order after initially being drafted into the Test side as a replacement for an injured Justin Langer. In April, 2006, Huss became the fastest Australian to 1000 Test runs, reaching the milestone in mere 166 days. Prior to the Indian tour of summer 07/08, he currently has an average of 86.18, second only to Sir Donald Bradman's 99.94 world best.
Mr. Cricket was a vital part of Australia winning back the Ashes over the summer of 2006/07 - he averaged 105.25 in Australia's 5-0 whitewash of the old enemy, and was anointed the new dressing room leader when the team sings the victory song "Under the Southern Cross I Stand".
Hussey has also become a vital part of Australia's One Day International side, making his debut in February 2004, often guiding the side to victory with his steady innings in the middle order.
Mr Cricket is a freak - the sort of freak we love!
