Underworld figure and convicted murderer, Carl Williams (pictured above), is reported to have died in prison.
Although the identity of the deceased is unconfirmed at this stage, a police spokewoman said: "Victoria Police can confirm that a male prisoner has died following an assault which occurred earlier this afternoon."
It's believed that the inmate died as a result of head injuries and eventual cardiac arrest.
The news of Williams' death, comes on the same day he once again made front page news when it was revealed Victoria Police forked out $8,000 for his daughter to attend private school.
Uncovering who's behind this latest twist in the Underbelly tale, might be the most intriguing of all.
What will Williams' legacy be?

I think he must have been a marked man for ages, the news about the school fees was probably the final straw.

whats to say its all a cover up so that he can be forgotten but hiding somewhere nice and safe till it all blows over then he changes his looks and adress and starts a new life not looking over his shoulders for the rest of his life???????

Who cares! Channel 9 have a lot to answer for, without underbelly he may have just disappered and we the public would have been better off.
