Adelaide Gunning For New Glamour Club Post by: Travis Dodd 20 August, 2009 - 4:44 PM
We got off to a great start to the season. A well-fought win at home against Perth Glory with a cracking goal and equally entertaining celebration! Yeah, maybe I got a bit carried away with that one (see above).Last week’s result was disappointing to say the least. The opportunities to score were certainly there, but we didn’t have that killer touch in front of goals to finish them off. It’s always tough losing a game, but especially to Sydney because they are the self-proclaimed ‘bling’ team of the league.
Onto Gold Coast United, new challengers for the glamour title with an owner worth $5 billion willing to give them everything under the sun to win the championship. Private jets with massage tables, boardrooms and no doubt on-board chefs, has got to be an exhausting way to travel the country!
It has been a relatively light week on the pitch this week. With the short turnaround, our focus has been on recovery and structure on how we will shape up and beat Gold Coast this week. After two rounds they sit on top of the table, scoring nine goals along the way.
For star striker Shane Smeltz to have five goals tucked away already, I can assure you Cornthwaite and Fyfe will be doing everything in their power to make sure he doesn’t add to his tally this week. He is not the only threat with Jason Culina looking dangerous and Adelaide boy Joel Porter doing damage to teams early on.
New recruits Owusu and Rudan had 45 mins in a youth team game during the week along with Mullen and Cassio. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, the guys will be fit enough and available for selection and we will see them out on the pitch doing what they do best.
There are certain people that you expect to come out and say something really really stupid. Eugene Galekovic is not one of them. He has just got himself a shiny new laptop and had it with him on the flight from Adelaide to Sydney on the weekend. After takeoff, the seatbelt light went off and he got his laptop out and asked one of the boys: "Will my wireless internet would work up here?"
We had a laugh at his expense and I’m sure it will be a long time before he lives that one down!
In other Mark Birighitti news, his mum saw his shocking orange hair on TV on Sunday and let him know via text message how atrocious it looked. After all the flack he has copped from the boys, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Monday afternoon, he was back at the hairdresser getting his hair dyed dark brown. Thank god for that.
It's shaping up to be a cracking game on Friday night, so get your tickets early. I would hate for you to be the one who missed out on seeing Adelaide United be the first team to beat Gold Coast United after their bold predictions of winning the championship undefeated.
See you Friday night!
