Adelaide Ready For Fowler Post by: Travis Dodd 27 August, 2009 - 10:11 AM
It was a shame it took us an hour and for us to go down two goals before we started to show how we are capable of playing. For the last half hour of the match we dominated the Gold Coast with a majority of possession, but yet again our finishing in front of goal was not up to the standard it should have been. We know it was not good enough for our fans who come out and support us week in week out.
For our fans, it was the first opportunity to see Lloyd in action. He is certainly shaping up to be a crowd favourite. Not sure if you saw it or not but he came straight on and ran into Michael Thwaite, almost knocking him over. The crowd loved it and it fired the boys up as well. Lloyd did well in his debut in a Reds shirt, causing havoc all over the park.
It was also good to see Daniel Mullen and Fabian Barbiero getting some time on the park. Daniel had not expected to play a part in the game let alone start, but with the withdrawal of Cassio the night before it caused Viddie to make a few personnel changes. Fabes was in the same boat, only coming into the squad late Thursday afternoon.
The team is hurting from the loss and we are all looking forward to this Friday for our game against North Queensland. They haven't had a good start, losing their first three games. We are fully expecting them to come out firing, especially considering they beat us in the pre-season with Adelaide boys Jason Spagunolo and Fred Agius scoring in that game.
Personally, I’m looking forward to coming up against Spags. We were, and are, still good friends having spent a lot of time together travelling to and from TAFE when we were studying last season. We had grand ideas that we would become architects (or something) in our lives after football. As it turned out, we barely finished the first two subjects and have since moved on...might have a look at finance this year!
This week is going to be a big one for us - we come up against one of the football greats in Robbie Fowler. The boys will be fired up to go against him, and you can be sure that the Fury boys from Adelaide will be up for the challenge as well.
After three rounds we find ourselves with only the one win. Training has been intense, all of the guys are keen to get back out there and put in a better performance. We need to get a win this week to get our season back on track and restore confidence in the playing group and our fans.
I'm sure Fury will be thinking the same way. Another loss would be disastrous for them, not that we really care about them. It would be good for us to be able to put a nail in the coffin so early.
Another week and yet another story about our young custodian Mark Birighitti. He was overheard on the weekend trying to work his magic on a young lady who happened to be a twin (which Mark knew at the time). After some casual conversation and getting to know her he asked how old she was. Not a bad question you wouldn't think, but he really let himself down when he said 'oh ok...how old is your sister then?'!
Needless to say when the boys found out about this they let rip! I don't know why it is, but he always manages to be the one saying something really stupid.
It will be a cracking game and one that we are hoping will be the beginning of a goal fest at Hindmarsh Stadium...in our favour of course.
As always having a full stadium is a massive boost for the players, so we hope to see it packed with a sea of red to help cheer us on to victory!
See you there!
