United Ready To Face Victory Post by: Travis Dodd 17 September, 2009 - 11:27 AM
Let's just get this out of the way early so I can get on with things and try putting it behind me. I'm talking about my dreadful miss last Friday from a metre out...it may have been even closer. I am too afraid to watch the replay to see how bad it really was. I get chills down my spine when I think about it. Not that I haven't been reminded over and over by my team mates and virtually every person that supports the club. I really don't know how I missed, but lets just say it wont happen again, and I'll make up for it this week!
The win Friday night was a great morale booster and is just what we needed before the massive game coming up for us this week. Cassio's freekick was a pearler, although there was a lot of talk after the game that it was an own goal. All of a sudden Cassio couldn't understand English and had no idea what we were talking about. We should have won the game by a bigger margin, but at least we got the win and importantly kept a clean sheet.
The down side of the game is that we had a few injuries come out of it. Alemao broke his nose and is in doubt for the game this week. I did say last week that Lloyd wouldn't play and he made a liar out of me, so I guess anything is possible. Reidy and Michael Marrone on the other hand will definitely miss a couple of games. Reidy has a quad strain and is likely to be out for two to three weeks, while Michael has had an arthroscopy on his knee because of some torn cartilage. He will probably be out for four to five weeks. It provides Viddie with another headache losing 2 right full backs in 1 game with the other (Daniel Mullen) gone with the U/20's for the up coming Youth World Cup.
This week also saw us get our player sponsor. My sponsor this year is Middy's Data & Electrical. Now Damo is a great guy and I get on really well with him, but he has made a bit of a weird request of me. He wants me to wear pink jocks and flash them to him next time I score! I do actually have a pair but I'm not sure I could fulfil his wishes with that one. I should also mention that their trademark colour for the business is pink aswell. Damo...that's for giving me grief about the miss on Friday night!
There is a real buzz in the team this week. Our games against Melbourne have always been fiery and you can expect nothing less this week. The return of Kevin Muscat should do nothing but fan the flames even more.
It is a good time to be coming up against them. They have lost a couple of big name players through injury and transfer and have not been playing their best football. Muscat's return will give them a boost but with him being out for four weeks it's going to be a tough game to come back in!
It's funny how one win can bring back the belief and confidence that has been missing for the last few weeks. We find ourselves in fifth spot and only five points off top spot. The competition is very close this year and if we can build some momentum and string together a few results, we will have started to consolidate our spot in the finals.
Sorry Birras, but you really do bring it on yourself sometimes. This week he was having a conversation with Lucas. The subject of choice...money. Not sure exactly what was being said or why, but Lucas asked Mark ‘how many zeros in 1000?' His response was 4. Of course it was, because that's right apparently. At lunch that day I was talking to him about it and he maintained he was right and the answer was four. I asked him to write 1000 on the table with his finger and when he finished I asked how many zeros he wrote. Unbelievably he still answered four!! After repeating the test on the table a couple more times the penny finally dropped and he realised his mistake, to which he tried to cover up with ‘I was only joking, just taking the piss boys'. I only wish you were joking Birras!
It has been two years since we have beaten Melbourne and we are confident that this week will be the one to break the drought. As always we would love to have a full house to watch us.
See you at Hindmarsh!
