Brian Taylor has suggested the AFL should hand the 2012 Brownlow Medal to Trent Cotchin and Sam Mitchell.

Jobe Watson handed his medal back in as a result of Essendon's doping saga, with the AFL commission set to make a decision on the medal's future on Tuesday.

BT has suggested the medal should go to the next in line.

"I probably do (think Cotchin and Mitchell should win the award) on the basis that our sport has always been next in line," he said on Triple M's Weekend Breakfast with Seb Costello.

"Chris Grant's the best example - I know it wasn't a retrospective awarding or non-awarding of the Brownlow Medal, in was there and then."

BT mapped out what should happen from here.

"I think it is fair that if Jobe's having the medal taken away from him then the other two should be in line to receive it," he said.

"I think that should happen, that presentation should happen at next year's Brownlow."
