Richards Training With Essendon
Former Sydney forward on verge of joining Bombers?
It looks increasingly likely that Xavier Richards will join Essendon as a delisted free agent.
The former Swan has been spotted training with the Bombers at their Tullamarine base.
After playing in the final 10 games of the season, including the 2016 Grand Final to take his career tally to 12, Richards stunned the football world by turning down a new two-year deal from the Swans and requesting a trade back to his home town Melbourne.
A trade failed to materialise and Richards was unceremoniously cut by the Swans last month.
There would be more than a hint of serendipity surrounding a Richards move to the Bombers, given his older brother Ted was cut loose by them at the end of 2005 – only to then forge a brilliant career with Sydney.
Xavier joined Ted at the Swans at the end of 2012. Ted retired this year after 261 AFL games.
