Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has been charged by a junior footy league over his outburst at an under nines footy match.

He's been ordered to appear before the South Metro Junior Footy League tribunal for swearing at an official while acting as a runner for his son's side on Sunday.

Garry Lyon said that he spoke to his mate Alastair Clarkson on Monday night.

"He was at pains to say that yes he made a blue by swearing which he shouldn't have done," Garry Lyon said on Triple M Melbourne's Rush Hour.

"We know today now that he's going to have to face the South Metro Junior Footy League."

"Mate that's a bit embarrassing for a bloke, a senior coach, who has got to go in there and face a tribunal," Billy Brownless said.

"They should just go in there and say look Clarko, mate don't do it again, we appreciate your help."

"Bill I've done it for 10 years and been involved in junior footy for 23 years, there are always some, their eyes mist over and they forget it's junior footy and they start to carry on."
