Hawthorn has survived a brave Adelaide challenge in Saturday evening's preliminary final and will now face Sydney in the Grand Final next week.

The final score was 13.19 (97) to 14.8 (92).

The Crows led narrowly at the end of the first term and after Tex Walker kicked one of his three first-half goals after the half-time siren a big upset was on the cards.

But Hawthorn hit back and carried a 16-point lead into the final term before the Crows surged into the lead at one stage of the final quarter.

And despite Walker's fourth goal cutting the gap to 5 points with 16 seconds to go the Hawks held on.
