On the eve of Channel Nine's summer of cricket, two members of their commentary team have dropped out.

Former Australian test teammates Brett Lee and Mike Hussey stepped down from their respective positions on the team.

However, Nine's director of sport, Tom Malone, said that Hussey will have a new role.

“As part of Nine’s stronger and deeper relationship with Cricket Australia, Wide World of Sports is providing Michael Hussey to host and report for Cricket Australia’s digital platforms this summer,” Malone said.

“Mike will provide the link between Nine’s commentary team and the Cricket Australia digital content.

“Brett Lee’s new business interests and young family are taking up increasing amounts of Brett’s time and there isn’t the space to squeeze in his commentary commitments as well."

The new commentary team will be headed up by former captain Michael Clarke, and it is believed that Nine is also in conversations with Kevin Pietersen and Waqar Younis.
