Is Ricky Ponting Coming Back To Work With Australia?
Come home Punter!
Legendary number three Ricky Ponting has taken a step towards working with the Australian cricket team, relinquishing his role as coach of IPL side Mumbai Indians.
The move comes at a time of significant upheaval for the Aussies, with Rod Marsh stepping down as chairman of selectors.
Ponting is also thought to be being considered for a role as Australia’s T20 coach after his success with the Indians — they won the title in his first season there.
Darren Lehmann is contracted as Australian coach until 2019 and Justin Langer is the frontrunner to replace him.
Also standing in the way is Ponting’s broadcasting commitments — he covers the Big Bash for Channel 10 and Australian games for BT Sports in England.
Ponting will be replaced by Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene as coach of the Indians.
