Casey Stoner Retires From MotoGP At Age 26 Post by: Triple M Sport 18 May, 2012 - 7:41 AM
Two-time MotoGP champion Casey Stoner has shocked the motor sport world by announcing he will quit at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old Australian has won 35 MotoGP races and leads the current standings but said the sport has changed and he has now lost his passion and desire.
"After a long period of thought and numerous discussions with my wife and family, I have decided to stop competing at the end of the season," he said.
"After so many years taking part in this sport that I love, and with all the sacrifices that I have had to make, I no longer have the passion to continue and I think that it is best to stop."
Stoner became a father for the first time in February when his wife Adrianna gave birth to Alessandra.
Triple M Stick Shift regular Greg Rust says it's 'not unreasonable' to assume Stoner will end up embarking upon on a V8 career in Australia next year.
