Brisbane has poached the NRL All Stars game from the Gold Coast for 2013.
In the move announced today by the ARL Commission (ARLC) which will see the fourth annual Harvey Norman All Stars match move to Brisbane for the first time on Saturday, February 9.
The move will also see the potential capacity of the game rise from 25,000 capacity at Skilled Park to over 50,000 at Suncorp Stadium.
"The All Stars is a nationally significant event and it was always intended that it would grow and expand to new locations to allow other local communities to experience its atmosphere," Mr Mattiske, the interim ARLC chief said.
Mr Mattiske praised the Gold Coast for it's "spectacular launch pad" for the event but added the move to Suncorp Stadium was a "natural progression" to allow it to grow even bigger.
"Already $4.5M has been raised in NRL and NRL club programs and we are looking forward to broadening the reach of those community initiatives in the future," Mr Mattiske added.
The ARL Commission is in the final year of a three-year agreement wit Events Queensland to host the event and discussions are underway to consider a renewal of the agreement.
