Matty Johns: The NZ Warriors Can Win The 2011 NRL Grand Final
Matty Johns reveals why they can beat Manly and win their first ever GF.
The Sea Eagles are hot favourites to win their 8th premiership title, but Triple M's Matty Johns reckons the NZ Warriors 20-12 win over the Melbourne Storm proves they are more than capable of winning their first ever premiership.
"Talk about perfect dress rehearsals for a Grand Final, the Warriors had it," said Matty on this morning's The Grill Team.
"Melbourne are proven in big games and [the Warriors] by playing grand final-style football, dominated the middle-third of the field. In the past, to do that against Melbourne was football suicide. But the Warriors took them on. They are capable of winning the [Grand Final]."
Manly got into the grand final beating the Broncos 26-14. Matty said Brisbane looked lost with their captain Darren Lockyer.
"For all Brisbane's talk of 'we're not a one-man team without Darren Lockyer', for me they didn't appear to be a side who believed they could win. A very comfortable win for Manly and you'd think that Manly are very fresh and still have plenty in reserve."
Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler admitted to Triple M that they'll have to be at their best to beat a red hot Warriors outfit.
"They're a big side, they're unpredictable, they can score points and they have freakish individuals," said Des.
Meanwhile, The Grill Team caught up with Warriors coach Ivan Cleary following their win.
