A late Cooper Cronk field goal has helped Queensland answer a brave NSW challenge and win the 2012 State Of Origin series 21-20 in a thrilling third and deciding game.

NSW had squared the game at 20-20 before Cronk's long-range heroics capped off a brilliant series.

The Blues got off to a flyer and led 8-0 in the first half but the Maroons rallied, going on a 16-0 run, before the dramatic finish.

Johnathan Thurston won man of the match and Nate Myles was adjudged the player of the series.

The Defining Moments Of The Decider:

13 min: From dummy-half Brett Morris bursts through some flimsy defence on the QLD line and surges his way in goal. It was all NSW at this stage and there were some worrying signs for QLD.

15 min: Robbie Farah loses ball on the next set of six after getting a little concussed from a head clash. Then two minutes later Blues prop Tim Grant gives away a silly penalty for staying too long in the tackle. In the following set, Maroons winger Darius Boyd sneaks a try in the corner after a bullet-like cut-out pass from their champion no. 7 Johnathan Thurston.

15-30 min mark: During this period QLD claw their way back on the back of field position and a good kick & chase. The momentum of the game began to shift after it was all NSW in the first 14 mins.

32 min: With the Maroons camped in their own 20, Thurston makes a break from the 30 metre line that gets them deep in Blues territory. On the following tackle, Corey Parker offloads to Thurston who scores next to the posts. It was a massive play by Thurston after the Blues had them on the ropes.

34 min: Blues five-eighth Todd Carney kicks out on the full from the kick-off - a cardinal sin. In what is a huge 5 minutes before halftime Maroons centre Justin Hodges scores a controversial try from the subsequent set of six. He ran behind one of his own players (Ben Hannatt) but was ruled not to be a shepherd by the video ref. Even QLD supporters admit it should not have been a try. QLD go to halftime leading 16-8.

46 min: Blues are going nowhere then suddenly they get a lucky penalty on the backend of the tackle count. On the back-to-back set, Robbie Farah puts in a beautiful kick for Brett Stewart to score next to the posts. It's now 16-14.

70 min: Attacking the QLD line, Josh Morris scores a miracle try for the Blues in the corner. He gets over the top of Darius Boyd gathering a cross-field kick from Robbie Farah. Todd Carney kicks the goal of his life to level the scores up. It was a hell of a fightback considering the Blues had no field position or attack.

71 min: In what is the kick of his life, Todd Carney converts the Josh Morris try from the sideline to level it up at 20-all.

75 min: Incredible! Cooper Cronk kicks the field goal of his career. They hit the lead 21-20 and then give the ball back to NSW 5m from their line. He wins the game for the Maroons.
