Prince Harry has announced that the Invictus Games will be held in Sydney in 2018, with the Opera House to be the site of the opening ceremony.

The Invictus Games are for injured, wounded or ill service personnel, which was started by Prince Harry.

The Sydney games are expected to attract over 600 servicemen and women from more than 16 countries during the week-long event.

Sydney beat out the Gold Coast to host, and the Daily Telegraph reported that events will be held at Olympic Park and Darling Harbour.

The inaugural games took place in London in 2014, followed by Florida this year, and Toronto for 2017.

“These games have been about seeing guys sprinting for the finish line and then turning round to clap the last man in,” Prince Harry said.

“They have been about teammates choosing to cross the line together, not wanting to come second, but not wanting the other guys to either.

“These games have shown the very best of the human spirit.”
