Quade Cooper cited for high tackle on Barnes, Fox sports News
Quade Cooper has been banned for one week and will not play in the Queensland Reds quarter finals game against the Sharks.
The reds player broke the news on Twitter whilst a media scrum waited out the epic five-hour judiciary hearing.
The tackle was cited by referee Steve Walsh in the 63rd minute of the final regular game of the season at Suncorp on Saturday.
Paul Tully, a Brisbane lawyer, who was in charge of the SANZAR judiciary hearing ruled Cooper had contravened Law 10.4 for dangerous tackling.
The citation read "dangerous Tackling when he tackled Waratahs player Berrick Barnes, making contact above the line of the shoulders of the opposing player."
Reds coach Ewen McKenzie had earlier defended the tackle on Triple M Brisbane saying it was "clumsy but not malicious."
Former Wallaby Tim Horan agreed adding he believes the Reds can't win their knock out finals games without Cooper.
Queensland Reds will decide tomorrow if they will appeal the ruling.
In other Super Rugby news, SANZAR is likely to stir up the honey pot having appointed two South African refs for the Elimination finals this weekend.
