The iconic Corkman Irish Pub in Carlton was recently illegally demolished, much to the dismay of the Melbourne public, but a drawing of the initial plans show that it might not have needed to happen.

The sketch shows the pub being used as part of an apartment complex that rises 12-storeys.

The plans, drawn by CHT Architects, were accompanied by a 'planning analysis' that the developers would require "input from an experienced heritage consultant".

Alas, the 159-year old pub was destroyed on October 15 with no permission from the Melbourne City Council.

Mr Shaqiri, one of the owners, has since claimed that they will endeavour to rebuild the Corkman "using as many of the materials available" from the original pub.
