Drunk Air

January 1, 2009

A Japanese businessman is suing an airline for getting him so drunk he beat up his wife.

Yoichi Shimamoto is blaming United Airlines for allowing him to get so inebriated he attacked his spouse as they walked through customs at San Francisco Airport.

He claims the multiple glasses of Burgundy served at 20 minute intervals left him so drunk he "could not manage himself".

Shimamoto was charged and sentenced to 18 months probation following the incident. He is hoping United Airlines will foot the £100,000 bill for his bail and defence costs.

Jean Medina, a spokesman for United Airlines, said: "We believe a lawsuit which suggests we are somehow responsible for the consequences of a passenger's physical assault on his own wife is without any merit whatsoever."

Like Boxing Day here in Australia, the day after Thanksgiving is shopping day! Except this poor girl enjoyed herself a bit too much the night before.
