Awesome New U2 Track

U2 - Winter
While U2 takes a six-month break from touring, the new music from the studio has already started flowing.
Over the weekend, the band released this sample of their new ballad “Winter”, which was recorded especially for a new film called Brothers, starring Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman [hey, I’m no film critic but, wow, it looks like a downer of a movie].
Folk are already talking about “Winter” as a possible Academy Award contender for best song.
A radically different version of the track originally appeared on the bonus DVD disc that came with the deluxe version of No Line On The Horizon, but seriously, how many of us got that? It’s also believed to be one of the key tracks from U2's unreleased album, Songs Of Ascent.
The soundtrack to Brothers also features the U2 classic, “Bad”.
Brothers is directed by long-time U2 associate, Jim Sheridan.
“Jim’s stories have a kind of simplicity, usually, at the plot level and the complexities are in the drawing of the relationships,” Bono said. “This one though is actually quite a complex plot line. It’s a powerful, powerful film.” [Yeah, as we said, a real downer]
What do you think of the new song?

What is it with the U2 hating? Oh that's right, it's somehow oddly cool to hate U2. (Which is odd considering U2 was voted Adelaide's fave band)
Anyway, I am going to show my utter uncool side, I think the song is brill. I have NLOTH deluxe so I have heard Winter before, but there is just such a haunting, magical quality to Bono's voice in this, an almost yearning. Very Irish and yet... not. The music is whimsical and beautiful.
I love it.
Bono's voice brings me chills of delight.

Has U2 confirmed this song to be on "Songs Of Ascent"? I love this song. I checked out "Brothers" recently and both the song and movie blew me away.

Songs of Ascent is more of an idea than an actual confirmed album at this point.
Anyhow, Winter is a brilliant track and when in its full glory (YouTube it, or see it in Linear) is a grand, powerful, sweeping anthem that mirrors The Joshua Tree in its sonic panoramic sweep.
