The Who Get Slagged Off Posted by Eddie Ruckus 9 February, 2010 - 6:11 AM

Roger Daltrey, the 65-year-old singer of The Who, thinks that his band’s performance at yesterday’s Superbowl, watched by over 100 million people, went okay.

About 99.9 million of the people watching seem to disagree.

Daltrey admits he wasn’t personally satisfied with the Who’s 12-minute medley of some of their greatest hits. “I was so blinded that I couldn’t see,” says the old codger. “And I really wished the crowd would have gotten into singing the songs with us more. That’s how it is in Europe for our soccer matches. I wanted more banter.”

Reaction to the band’s performance ranged from best Superbowl half-time entertainment ever, to simply the worst.

“Daltrey sounded strained – and judging from his singing, straining to hear himself – and Townshend looked and sounded desperate,” wrote one critic. “He can still windmill his guitar, but he wasn't so much singing as shouting. The stage was the most exciting part of the show.”

What did you think of The Who’s performance?

The Who were and are awesome... they are a raw, loose rock and roll band, always have been... if people want note perfect over-produced music they need to stick to pop music...

I've followed The Who for 30 odd years and that performance was solid (and loose, messy, full of energy as they're meant to be!)... that's The Who !!!

Man, I actually thought they were pretty good. Sure, Pete and Roger are moving on in years and aren't going to be getting around like a shirtless Lil' Wayne (which is what I suspect the crowd wanted), but they still put on an awesome show.
