6 Anthony Kiedis Facts

Get the inside scoop from Kiedis' nephew on what it's REALLY like living with the rockstar

(Image from noisecreep.com)

Anthony Kiedis’ memoir Scar Tissue is the epitome of celebrity bios, with the whole book being filled to the brim with mayhem, mischief and utter, utter rock’n’roll chaos. But in a recent Reddit AMA, his nephew reveals that even though everyday life with the rocker isn’t quite as insane as the life of rockstar-dom, there’s still some pretty bloody moments when your uncle is a legend.

Here’s 6 things we’ve learnt about livin with Anthony Kiedis:

  • He can't play guitar!

Though being a world renowned frontman to one of the most critically acclaimed rock bands in the world, Kiedis doesn’t know how to play the guitar.

“He doesn’t know much more than a few chords on guitar, so I haven’t gotten any lessons from him, but I do see him as a huge inspiration for my own musical endeavors.”

You’re not the only one, mate.

  • Kiedis and Flea are still best mates.

After all these years and all those crazy times, Anthony and Flea are still BFF’s. Awwwww! (Also, Flea is the voice of Donnie from The Wild Thornberry’s! WHAT?!)

“Flea [is] still my uncles best friend. They are all amazing people. When I was a kid, I loved The Wild Thornberry’s and would always ask Flea to do the Donnie voice once I found out it was him. He obliged every time but did it more half-heartedly every time. Haha.”

  • He likes dressing up as Santa Claus.

Apparently the legendary RHCP frontman likes dressing up for the holidays!

“Although it has been a few years since we’ve celebrated Xmas together, they would always be great. He would take on the role of Santa and pass around presents to people. He also always had the best gifts ever…He got me drums and a bass once for Christmas.”

Can you imaging a tatted up, ripped as Santa Claus cruising around Christmas morning passing out all the pimpest presents?

I can.

And personally, that’s all I want on my Christmas list this year.

YEOW.

  • His dad (Blackie) is one crazy mother-fu****.

Well they don’t say “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” for no reason. Apparently the Kiedis crazy is inherited.

“Blackie…I haven’t seen him since RHCP got inducted into the hall of fame. I used to see him every couple of months, his house in Michigan was crazy. He had a giant skull collection lining the walls of every room and an unlicensed wolf named Shiva. Everyone in my small hometown knew someone that knew Blackie. He got around quite a bit.”

  • He’s stinky.

“[He smells like] years worth of BO. It’s kind of charming in a weird musky way though.”

This one we could have predicted – charm and all.

  • He loves performing with buskers on the street.

The music love is strong within this one! When music is your lifeblood yet you still take every opportunity to partake in it, you know the love is real.

“Any time we pass buskers on the street and he’s feeling the music, he will ship out his crazy spin moves. He sometimes runs into passersy too. Actually, this one time last Summer in a tiny Michigan beach town there was this old school country singing busker. My uncle asked if he knew ‘Why Don’t You Love Me Like You used To Do’ by Hank Williams (which RHCP covered). The busker knew it and my uncle sang harmonies with him. Too cool.”

Jack White Final Show

Jack White announces final acoustic shows - tickets only $3!

Fans worldwide rock’n’rolled a tear down their cheeks last week as music lord and jack-of-all-trades Jack White announced that he was “taking a break from performing live for a long period of time.”

Tears were dried temporarily for a special North American few with the news that the man will be performing five spontaneous acoustic concerts across U.S states, and tickets are only 3 bucks!

However, for the rest of us there was one gigantic catch – his final Fonda Theatre show would be exclusively streamed live on Jay-Z flailing $20-a-month music streaming site Tidal. And if you don’t want to jump on board that little sinking ship, you’re sh** out of luck.

White has been on the frontline of support for the exclusive music streaming service, even making phone calls to a few Tidal subscribers begging them to stay thanking them for their support.  But it seems his efforts aren’t helping Tidal as it continues to fail.

But don’t fear, because the Internet always prevails. And there’s no doubt that the video will be leaked as soon as the n00bs are able to.

In the meantime, White continues his final tour around The States. And he’s planning on hitting up all five of the cities that were part of the White Stripes’ 2007 fall tour which were cancelled due to Meg White’s acute anxiety.

White is a man of many interests, so there’s no doubt this won’t be the last we hear from him for a while, even if he says so himself.

We’ll be sure to keep you in the Jack White loop.

Jack White's Final Show Setlist:

1. "Just One Drink"
2. "Temporary Ground"
3. "Hotel Yorba"
4. "Alone in My Home"
5. "Do"
6. "Love Interruption"
7. "Inaccessible Mystery"
8. "We're Going to Be Friends"
9."A Martyr for My Love for You"
10. "Blunderbuss"
11. "Carolina Drama"
12. "The Same Boy You've Always Known"
13. "You've Got Her in Your Pocket"
14. "Goodnight, Irene"

'Refused' Refuse To Remain Silent

Refused refuse to remain silent after 17 years with new album release

(Photo from consequenceofsound.net)

Head-banging legends Refused are back after 17 years of neck resting.

The 90’s hardcore hero’s forth studio album Freedom will be released this coming June. But the boys have already released the first raging single ‘Elektra’ for y’all to break some back to.

And the boys reckon this is all just the beginning.

“It’s not a reunion anymore,” said frontman Dennis Lyxzén in a statement. “This is one of the most radical things we’ve ever done, both musically and lyrically.”

It seems that ending on a high note wasn’t satisfactory for the band, with 1998’s The Shape Of Punk’s critical acclaim just spurring them on to aim for more.

“Nobody wanted us to fuck with the image of the band who makes a great album and splits up. Nobody wanted us to dilute it,” said drummer David Sandström. “That actually provoked us.”

The boys worked with producer Shellback on the new release - whose repertoire includes collaborations with Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Lilly Allen, and Taylor Swift – and co-wrote both ‘Elektra’ and ‘366’ with him.

But Shellback’s background in pop doesn’t seem to squash the balls out of this bitty, more so adding a polish to the gritty, guitar-driven hard-rock Refused are so well known for.

The track burns hard with awesomely maddening polyrhythms, a disjointed instrumental explosiveness, and a depth to the overall sound production that really shows how 17 years of quiet maturing can just put the icing on the cake.

Get excited. Catch the clip below.

New Refused Single - "Elektra"

4. Françafrique
5. Thought Is Blood
6. War On The Palaces
7. Destroy The Man
8. 366
9. Servants Of Death

U2 vs. Tool

Fans buy U2 'Songs of Innocence' vinyl, get Tool 'Opiates' EP

(Photo from Twitter)

Y’all remember that little U2 infiltration into your iTunes playlist a little while back?

You know, the one that made you feel physically violated when you opened up your account to find their entire album ‘Songs of Innocence’ forcing itself upon you like some kind of overly amorous drunk clinging to the bar at closing time.

Listen: New Tom DeLonge LP

Some great new (and old) music from Blink-182 lead man DeLonge.

Tom DeLonge - New World (Audio Video)

We've been hearing some of the new tracks of Tom DeLonge's upcoming album of unreleased tracks from the vault and now we can listen to the whole thing on YouTube.

The album, To The Stars… Demos, Odds And Ends is full of unreleased and demo tunes that have been fixed up for release.

Along with the new tracks we also got a new video for "Circle-Jerk-Pit" which is a particularly Blink-esque punky, thrashy tune with a suitable video of skater kids sinking beers.

This is the first new music coming out of the Blink trio since all new news of their confusing in-fighting and scrapping any hopes of an upcoming reunion.

This album also heralds the first of Tom DeLonge's promised four albums over his various different projects for 2015... the man keeps busy.

The Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba is currently looking after his duties in Blink-182.
