Creed’s New Songs Of Salvation Post by: Eddie Ruckus - Rockin' Blogger 9 November, 2009 - 6:47 AM

Like a preacher caught out with a bevy of hookers, Creed’s frontman Scott Stapp knows he has sinned and he spends much of Creed’s comeback album, Full Circle, pleading for forgiveness and a bit of understanding.

Creed fans will be pleased to know that Full Circle pretty much sounds like the Creed of old, perhaps a bit heavier and more focused than ever. Creed haters won’t be surprised to learn that Full Circle sounds pretty much like the Creed of old, with Stapp as whingy and whiny as ever.

Creed’s old mate God barely gets a mention throughout the lyrics on the new album, except in the songs “Good Fight” [where Stapp pleads “God knows I tried”] and “Full Circle” [“I looked at God he winked at me – I made this mess myself”]. But come to the thank-yous page on the CD sleeve, and every band member except one thanks God ahead of everyone else. Maybe they’re just practicing for the Grammys.

So, Scott Stapp might be over his days of boozing and picking fights in bars, but with Full Circle, the memory and suffering of those experiences can now live with all of us forever.

STAPP’S SONGS OF SALVATION

Overcome
The title of the album opener suggests a bit of a God song [as does the track two, the hilariously entitled “Bread Of Shame”], but “Overcome” actually finds Scotty-boy taking a defiant stand on past misdemeanours. “I’m entitled to overcome,” he keeps repeating over and over and over. Sure, Mr Stapp, you’re entitled to do whatever the hell you want.

Away In Silence
It’s in Full Circle’s quieter moments that Stapp really lets it all hang out. “I’m pleading as you’re leaving, I’m begging you to stay – I’m not the man I used to be. I’ve changed.” Good on ya, mate!

Rain
Sometimes you just wish the rain would come and wash the pain away. Which is basically the gist of “Rain”. “So let it rain and wash everything away,” pleads Stapp. Good one, God boy.

All God jokes aside, what do you really think of Creed’s Full Circle?

Glad and surprised to see Creed get a review on the mix website, looking forward to getting a copy of the album some time soon.

If only we could embrace them further and play the odd track here and there, though understandably its at odds with our normal rotation.

"Overcome" is the best song I've heard in years. I wasn't ever that keen on Creed until I heard it. The song rocks!

I like Creed and I'm glad I accidentally heard about their new CD on Triple M. (That must have been a God thing too).

New stuff sounds good but I don't expect we'll play it, and you snub POD as well which is a shame. Thanks for the info and for the music you play.

i am a Creed fan they do an awesome live show, i must admit the alter bridge and scott stapp solo albums were no where near as good as Creed.

im so glad they got back together and while "Rain" isnt the most amazing song (i had to listen to it a few times but now i love it) other songs on their new album are as good if not better than the Creed of old.

Full Circle is definitely on my Christmas wish list!
