GN'R's Aussie Tour Blasts Off Post by: Dave-O 2 December, 2010 - 11:59 AM

No disrespect to the fine folk of Townsville but we're still shaking our heads over Axl Rose's decision to launch GN'R's four-date Aussie tour in Far North Queensland.
But as we've come to expect Axl is a man who does things his own way and judging by the reviews from last night's opening show it was a night to remember.
GN'R played a show full of energy and mayhem. They turned up on stage two hours late but still played a 16-song set littered with Gunners classics and various solos and instrumental jams.
It was a show that provoked and had everyone leaving with an opinion. Which is more than you can say about half the rock gigs these days. In fact, we started getting passionate responses from Triple M listeners as soon as the show was over.
Marc posted on our Rock Feed that while he was pissed about GN'R being late on stage they more than made up for it with a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
"I was very angry, but got over that about halfway through and enjoyed the rest of the concert.
"It's Axl Rose!," he continued. "He still has the same voice, still jumps around on stage, and puts on a great performance. The guitarists were phenomenal, and if I was to close my eyes I wouldn't be able to tell them from Slash. Worth going to at least once in your life."
However, not everyone was so forgiving. Brett from Queensland was very disappointed: "[I] walked out of the Guns n Roses concert, in Townsville, after waiting 2 hrs for Axle Roses [sic] to drag himself on stage. The band was so bad that after flying from Hervey Bay to Cairns to get to Townsville we walked out."
You can make your own mind up when GN'R play the Telstra 500 V8 Supercars in Sydney this Saturday before moving on to Adelaide and Perth!

People who complain about Axl going on late probably need to buy Justin Beiber tickets instead.
This is one of the world's last true Rock n Roll Stars who does things when and how he wants.
Axl keeps irregular hours to most of us and if he can deliver his best performance late at night, then so be it.
The guy rocks and sounds amazing still, can't wait to see the band on Saturday night.

Seriously who walks out? If Korn finished at 8.20 and Guns came on at 9.50 then with the change over period they're basically 45 minutes late!

Awesome show. They were only 1.5 hours late but played for 2 hours. All the classics were played and they rocked. Worth every dollar to see them.

Flew up to see the opening concert for the Gunners tour, was totally blown away with how good Axl sounded and the killer guitarists.
I was frustrated about the late start, but it wasn't 2 hours late.. Axl Rose is truly one of the greatest rock stars of all time, and he is still giving it his all!

Yeah.. ok i was there too... we obviously saw two different concerts. yes they were really only 1.5 hrs late, but omg this gig was very poorly executed.
From axel strutting on stage in a leather jacket (30 degrees celcius up here with high humidity) to his lack of interaction with the punters and the poorly choreographed pyros not to mention his voice was seriously failing, it's no wonder a huge percentage of their audience walked out.
i have been gigging for many years and this was the second attempt at a guns and roses gig (i'm sure you all remember the eastern creek gig) once again late, and not up to par (after the amazing skid row).
These people who are saying it was "the best concert ever" have actually never experienced professional acts re metallica, slayer etc.
Axel Rose needs to remember that live perfomances are their major income this day and age, and the punters want and expect more.

...altho i think seriously 10% of the walk out were like "where's Slash?"... that's Townsville for ya ;)

I was excited to hear the gunners play but to be honest the performance was pretty average. The guy had to read a telepromter to get his lyrics right!
Shihad and Korn were fantastic, they put on a great show but I was seriously wondering if it was an Axl impersonator. I walked out, yep I did and no can't say I'm a Justin Beiber fan, but was was pretty disappointed. I wouldn't pay to see Axl and his band perform again.

Shihad and Korn were awesome. Korn were flawless in their performance and stole the show.
GNR put on stellar show and played all the oldies with ease. Axle unfortunately is getting older and is running out of puff, however did a fantastic job nonetheless.
Well worth the wait.

You know I'm a little ashamed to say I'm from Townsville... I don't get these people that pay to go to a concert to spend the whole time booing... and then stage a huge walk out a half hour before it finishes?!?
The concert rocked!
Yeh they were an hour and a half late, so what? Axl is a rockstar, did anyone really expect him on time?!
Close your eyes and you'd swear it was the original band. It's not like we bought tickets expecting Slash to magically appear did we and Axl still has the legendary voice its just now its housed in a bigger body!
If that was an imposter then he did an excellent job!!
I hope you guys in Sydney give him a bit more respect then the crowd here did. Just remember he's a rock star thru and thru he might keep you waiting, but its definitely worth the wait!!
