Green Day's Kiss Post by: Music 20 March, 2009 - 6:50 AM
If the cover artwork of Green Day’s soon-to-be-released 21st Century Breakdown looks a bit familiar to anyone, it's because apparently an original of the art is owned by the Australian National Gallery.
It’s a stencil called The Kiss by a Melbourne-based artist called Sixten.
The stencil is based on a snapshot that a friend of the artist took at a party in Sweden a few years back of a couple pashing on a couch. Sixten also used the image as the basis of his graffiti art several times over.
That anonymous couple has now inspired the whole 21st Century Breakdown project, with Billie Joe Armstrong giving them imaginary names – Christian and Gloria – and building up a whole story around them.
But Green Day aren’t the first band to fall in love with the artwork. Another band called Buck 65 photographed one of Sixten’s graffiti versions of The Kiss and used it on the cover of an EP called Heck.
Meanwhile, Green Day is still mixing 21st Century Breakdown in Hollywood ahead of its May release, but the full tracklisting is now available.
Act 1 - Heroes and Cons
“21st Century Breakdown”
“Know Your Enemy”
“Viva la Gloria”
“Before the Lobotomy”
“Christian's Inferno”
“Last Night on Earth”
Act 2 - Charlatans and Saints
“March of the Dogs”
“Restless Heart Syndrome”
Act 3 - "Horseshoes and Handgrenades”

Reminds me of the "Warning" song with the way it begins. Then kind of like a "Jesus Of Suburbia."
Seems like they have combined a few of the styles from the albums they have made and made it one.

I can't imagine what I would possibly write about after being in the same band for 20 years.... hearing this track gives me hope.
Green Day is obviously a brilliant band... but more importantly they are amazing songwriters, innovators, performers and motivators.
We are truly lucky to still have them around.

Know Your Enemy is good.
I think March Of The Dogs will be good too.
Just taking a guess there. Usually the weird named songs are the best ones on the cd.
Looking forward to it guys!!!
Keep up the rocking music and come to my town!!!
