Homebake 2010 Cancelled! Post by: Chris E Leigh 25 August, 2010 - 1:31 PM

"As we've not been able to have the planets align to a standard we feel appropriate to the long standing reputation of Australia's largest locals only event, we'd rather focus on a positive future and are instead planning for a unique return version of Homebake Festival to take place during the first week of December 2011,'' organiser Joe Segreto announced. Check out the full statement here.
Homebake has featured Wolfmother, Silverchair, Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe and many more Aussie stars in previous years, acting as a springboard for fledgling artists and an annual event for Aussie rock fans across several generations.
So, what are those hippies (planets aligning?!) at Homebake talking about, really? Is it the billion new summertime festivals, from Falls to Meredith cropping up? Do people lack the cash? Or are there seriously not enough good local rockers to fill out a festival?
Perhaps one of the more outlandish local heroes demanded 1,000 brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or refused to go onstage. Whatever the reason, Homebake Festival will return in 2011.
Why do you think Homebake got canned for 2010?

What a massive shame. Not sure what to make of this announcement.
However, I will say that some of my favourite ever performances came from this festival - Died Pretty, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, You Am I, not to mention the countless other bands I stumbled onto yet came away as a massive fan.
Hope to see you back in 2011.
