INXS Split Post by: MMMusic 20 February, 2009 - 6:29 AM

Wow, it’s a call that most will agree has come at least a decade late, but it looks like the “surviving” members of INXS are gonna pull the plug on what’s been an inglorious final chapter to a once glorious music career.

After yesterday’s mind-blowing revelations that INXS actually punted their most recent singer, JD Fortune, at an airport in Hong Kong last year, the band’s spokeswoman told Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph today that the remaining band members are scattered around the world and will release an official statement about their future in two weeks time. [Please God, don’t let it be one of those surprise statements where they turn around and say they’re releasing a new album – arrrgh!]

The spokeswoman said that even she didn’t know Fortune had been sacked from the band.

Well, a disheveled and obviously messed-up Fortune told the whole world about it yesterday when he appeared on Canada’s version of Entertainment Tonight.

He revealed that all he was left with after three years fronting the band was a major drug problem.

Fortune is now back to living in his car [you’ll remember he was living in his car when he first auditioned for Rock Star: INXS in 2005], so things have sort of come full circle for the poor bastard.

Do you feel sorry for JD Fortune? Do you think INXS should have given it up a long time ago? What are your thoughts?

Geez... Michael Hutchence would be turning in his grave... they've kicked their new singer out coz he parties too hard... what would michael think?

Maybe if the guys from INXS started living on the edge a bit more they might make some better music!

I thought the switch album was great. Clearly the fact that they played to nearly a million fans worldwide would also suggest I wasn't the only one.

Press coverage particularly from Europe and North America was also very positive, I went to see two of the sold out shows and they were excellent, in fact Fortune showed an enthusiasm and energy that had been missing since the X tour nearly 17 years earlier.

The only negative press they recieved was not surprisingly in this country, after all press and Arias alike prefer Australians to have no overseas success, which is why they go so overboard with the likes of Human Nature and the Rogue Traders.

The Switch album had sold just short of 2 million which was impressive considering the circumstances and the absence from the lime light.

Sad day indeed for one of the greatest rock bands of all time and I wish Fortune every success with his solo album and recovery from his drug problems.

Well, I was one of those people who couldn't stand JD Fortune and I thought that was their downfall.

Mig would have made a much better front man!

I went and saw them twice in Canberra with JD at the helm. First time, thought, "brilliant!". The second time (less than a year later) out comes this emaciated shell of his former self. I thought, "yep, he's succumbed to the excesses of rock stardom".

I think the rest of the band had done their partying 20 years ago and were over it (probably prefer a night in front of the telly), whereas JD was only very young and ready to give it a go.

Don't get me wrong - JD has a great voice and can obviously perform well in a band - but maybe the rest of the boys made a mistake picking someone so young.

    My two cents' worth anyway...

What did INXS expect of a guy who wouldn't have played in front of more than a hundred people before?

He then gets all the stardom and everything that comes with it and develops a bit of a problem... Oh no! Give us a break inxs, he's the only reason you guys had some sort of "Edge".

Sad end to what was looking like a great second coming.

Loved INXS growing up (The Swing is probably my fav), but I really enjoyed Switch.

Would love to hear a second album with JD in front.

FYI - if you read the full interview transcript, JD doesn't actually say he'd been sacked - just that they shook his hand and said "thanks".

Don't you think the timing of this media coverage is just perfect to promote his solo album though?

The talent-shy Ferris brothers and Kirk Pengilly should have given up decades ago, talk about trying to milk something.

They've chewed this kid up and spat him out (not that he could ever come close to replacing Hutchence). Kirk Pengilly and the Ferris Bros., time for retirement, you are now old enough for the pension.

WTF??? And I don't usually like curse words. To be honest, I became a fan bc of JD & the amazing energy & passion he brought to the songs and the band.

I am saddened to learn of this split and his addiction issues. Maybe it was a bit much for all concerned.

I will always be a JD fan tho. I think he ROCKS! God bless you JD. Pull up your boot straps and get on with it.

I'm just hoping the band gives the whole story. if they just started the band back up for a few bucks. they should have been up front with the fans.

JD was way too good for them has beens.

Listen to his solo record and it will blow you all away.

Personally i think JD is a great musician and is just as good as michael hutchence in every department. When he was in the band juice they had some really kick ass music to.

Inxs are just a bunch of sore losers who can't move on from michael's death... Acdc did it and are still rocking hard but u guys are just gutless wonders!
