Jumping Again - Van Halen Are Back Post by: MMMusic 6 February, 2009 - 7:05 AM
Oil up the wheelchairs and keep those hair-plugs on stand-by – Van Halen is set to record its first album with singer David Lee Roth in 25 years.
Eddie Van Halen has told US Rolling Stone that his band’s reunion tour through America last year was not a one-off. The fact that they grossed $US93 million probably has something to do with it.
“We are a band,” Van Halen said. “It wasn’t just a one-off tour we did. We had a lot of fun – Dave was a blast. And next time we go out, we’re going to have some new stuff, too. I’m looking forward to getting on it.”
Eddie said they're gonna hit the studio in the middle of the year. “I’ve got tons of music written, such a variety of stuff,” he said. “People expect a certain thing from Van Halen, and this isn’t exactly bang-your-head-against-the-wall stuff.” [Oh, great … here comes the jazz record.]
Of course, jumping Dave will have to give up his day-job if he’s going to join the band again full-time. For the past five years, he’s been working as an emergency medical technician – an ambo – on the streets of New York. Straight up. Imagine him giving you mouth-to-mouth. Yuk – please just let me die!
Are you looking forward to new Van Halen? Do you think David Lee Roth can still jump? What do you reckon?

I hope they do an Australian tour. I've always been a big fan of the band particularly the Dave years.
Eddie is still a god when it comes to six string sting and when they toured out here in 98 with Gary Cherone they went off at the ent cent as did Dave when he was here solo in the 80's. Bring it on I say.

The original Van Halen won't be back together until they get Michael Anthony back on bass and backing vocals.
Getting Diamond Dave back is a good start though.

Can't wait to hear some new music from VH. It's awesome that Dave is up front on the mic again!

Can't believe it. Would not have thought Davo would come back, let alone record. Sammy did a great job continuing on from where he left, but his charisma and vocals kicked ass.
Eddie and Alex are first class musicians (Did you know Eddie first started as a drummer And Alex on guitar?).
I have never stopped playing VH at home or in the car. Hope they tour oz soon.
