Living End To Rock Aussie F1 GP Post by: The Learned One 27 January, 2011 - 3:45 PM

Living End frontman Chris Cheney told Triple M’s Rush Hour that their headlining show at this year’s Australian Formula One Grand Prix could be the biggest one in the band’s 18-year history.

The announcement of the legendary Australian rock act’s involvement in the iconic Albert Park race was made on Thursday afternoon and Cheney was anticipating a "pretty crazy" concert on March 27.

“If all those (estimated 100,000 Formula One fans) turn up, it will probably be the biggest show we’ve done,” Cheney said.

“I went a few years ago when The Who played and the atmosphere was electric. I think petrol and rock ‘n’ roll have always been a pretty good marriage.”

The critically-acclaimed three-piece outfit follows in the footsteps of Kiss, Deep Purple, The Who, Powderfinger and Simple Minds as bands to have performed at the race.

And bassist Scott Owen revealed that the fellas might start their set with the classic "Roll On".

The Living End also happens to be in the process of preparing its sixth studio album for a mid-year release and Cheney described the task of deciding which 11 songs from the 40 they’ve written will make the final cut as a "pain".

“We’re not going to make a double record because nobody makes double records anymore so it’s probably going to be about 11 songs,” he said.

“It’s very difficult to cull that down (from 40) because there’s bits and pieces you like in every song but at the end of the day you just pick the songs that are the strongest and go with it.”

If you pre-purchase your Grand Prix tickets, you will be able to catch The Living End, F1 race, loads of V8 Supercars action in a new race format and a host of support categories for just $99.

Get your tickets from FOXTIX on 1800 100 030 or www.grandprix.com.au.
