Oasis’s ex-manager is calling it as monumental a music event as Michael Jackson’s death, but the end of Oasis could hardly have come as surprise to anyone, could it?

Following Noel Gallagher’s bombshell late on Friday night that he was splitting from the band immediately, the guitarist yesterday gave more details about his reasons for leaving.

In a long post on the band's website, Noel wrote [in part]:

“Dearly beloved, it is with a heavy heart and a sad face that I say this to you this morning. As of last Friday, August 28, I have been forced to leave the Manchester rock & roll pop group Oasis.

“The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new.”

While there’s been no word about the split yet from Noel’s big-mouthed-and-big-headed brother, the boys’ mum Peggy Gallagher [poor woman!] has come out saying she doesn’t believe this is really the end of the band.

“I hope this isn’t the end of Oasis,” she told a British newspaper yesterday. “I don’t think it is. They’re just tired at the end of the tour. They’ve had fights before and got over it.

“They do love each other, but they’ve always been very different. The funny thing is, they didn’t fight as children. They didn’t fight until they started the band.”

What do you reckon – is this really the end of Oasis?
