U2 Behind The Scenes: The Claw Post by: CK 30 November, 2010 - 10:30 PM
On the eve of U2's first Aussie gig of the U2360 world tour, Mieke from Triple M Melbourne's Hot Breakfast went behind-the-scenes at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne to see the U2 crew were putting the finishing touches on "The Claw".
We interviewed Willie Williams and Jake Berry, the blokes responsible for devising and getting one of the biggest concerts the world has ever seen on the road.
Willie Williams is the Show Director and Designer on the U2360 tour and has been with the Irish superstars for 28 years.
"It's over 25 years since U2 first came here. This is basically our silver wedding tour." he said.
"The show, of course, is a mixture of the very old and the very new. On this tour they have been playing one or two songs a night of completely unreleased material, which they've never done before."
"For me it's not a question of building a show or tour in isolation. Staying with the content of the show, the setlist. It's always in context of what they've done before and what they're thinking they might do in the future."

Jake Berry is the Production Director on the U2360 tour and has been in the biz since 1979 working with bands like AC/DC, The Rolling Stones and Metallica.
Jake tells the story of how the idea of the current tour set up came together at the end of U2's last Aussie Vertigo tour.
"We were sitting around patting ourselves on the back after Vertigo and Bono walks off the stage and calmly said 'can I play in the round?'."
"That's where it all started in Australia on to Hawaii"
