U2's Memorable Final Aussie Show Post by: Dave-O 20 December, 2010 - 8:39 AM

U2

U2 played their first show in Perth since the Popmart tour 13 years ago and by all reports it was an absolute ripper.

This concert on Saturday night at Subiaco Oval was their first of two shows to end their Australian 360 tour and they gave the 55,000 fans a finale to remember.

The band played a brilliant mix of hits ("I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "Sunday Bloody Sunday") and new songs ("Get On Your Boots", "Magnificent") plus one rare song, the unreleased track "North Star" which popped up in the middle of the set.

Also, there was an hilarious moment when Bono, acknowledging the Ashes series that was happening across the city at the WACA, began comparing each band member to a famous Aussie cricketer.

He called Adam Clayton the Shane Warne of U2, Larry Mullen Jr. as Adam Gilchrist, The Edge as Michael Hussey and himself as David Boon (well, Boon is an anagram of Bono).

I'm sure Bono was comparing Adam to Warne's wonderful skill on the pitch and not his recent antics off it.

He hasn't forgotten that in the early days Adam owned the only amplifier between them.

They have managed to pick up just a little bit more kit since then.

Bono and The Edge's flight back home had to be diverted to the west of Ireland due to freezing weather at Dublin Airport.

They ended up spending the night in an ancient converted castle that is now a hotel.

They must have still been on a high from their brilliant Aussie tour as reports have it they were up singing with the locals until the early hours.

They might need to come down from all future tours this way.

My husband and I attended the U2 concert in Brisbane with my best friends Rebecca and Ryan (who had traveled 600 km from Gladstone to go to the concert). This night, she was jumping up and down all excited and as she sighted Bono up on stage only seconds later she started to take steps backwards. We have all immediately run to her aid thinking she was having her little diehard fan flutter again but soon realized it was more than that.

We lifted her over the barricade to the security guard. Paramedics immediately started working on her as she had stopped breathing, she was in an ambulance and police escorted her to the RBW. Beck (37) had a brain aneurysm class 5 bleed with a 1% chance of surviving. A further scan revealed that she had a second bleed which complicated things even further. Beck has had 2 operations on her brain.

Over the last 5 weeks it has been a slow process. She still knows everyone and everything that is going on. Her body though has a long process of healing, still not speaking and just started liquid food.

I am hoping that in some way, this story reaches the members of U2 and hope that they could possibly do something for her, even just the smallest gesture. I know this would give her so much of a lift, she has gone through so much in the last 5 weeks and there is still a long painful haul infront of her with still at least another 2 months in hospital and rehab unit before a possible 2 years of physio.

She has a facebook group page set up by Ryan called "Beck is Awesome.

Your assistance is providing some hope would be greatly appreciated.
