Wolfmother - New Moon Rising
UPDATE: We just came out of an exclusive listening session for Wolfmother's new album, Cosmic Egg at Sydney's 301 studios. And we gotta say that this album rocks. If you're a fan of Wolfmother you'll love it and if you're a fan of rock n' roll you'll love it as well!
The former trio are now a four-piece and the new members have fitted in like a well-worn glove. The driving rhythms and wicked guitar solos pick up from where the last record left off, while Andrew's voice seems to have actually become bigger (if that's possible!).
There's about 3 songs that will have radio jumping including the new single, "New Moon Rising", which is simply classic Wolfmother.
Overall, it's a massive sounding record that reminds us a lot of everyone from Soundgarden and GNR to Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath.
We can't wait till it comes out on October 9.
Meanwhile, we spotted the boys from Powderfinger at the session where they've been putting the finishing touches on their follow-up to Dream Days At The Hotel Existence.
Four years on from their monster debut album, this Friday Triple M will unveil Wolfmother’s sizzling hot new single, “New Moon Rising”, the first track to be lifted from the band’s upcoming new album, Cosmic Egg.
“New Moon Rising” is described as “a thumping, ripping slice of optimistic future-blues, complete with textbook flaming Wolfmother guitar and joyously bludgeoning drums.”
Wolfmother have spent much of this year over in LA recording Cosmic Egg and the Grammy Award-winning Aussies have made some powerful friends during their stay there.
A little while back, singer Andrew Stockdale received an email asking if he would be interested in working with another curly-topped performer who goes by the handle of Slash.
“I was honoured to play with Slash,” says Stockdale. “He dropped in one night and we just sat there with an acoustic. It was really, really like an incredible experience to write with Slash. He’s a cool guy. He moves really fast too. His creative process had me on my toes. He’s very alert with what he’s looking for and how a song needs to move.”
Later this month, Wolfmother hook up with some other new friends, The Killers, for a quick US tour before finally coming home for a quick round of theatre shows around Australia in September. The band also announced yesterday that they will be performing at the NRL Grand Final on October 4.
A few days later, on October 9, the whole world will finally get to hear Cosmic Egg, a record the band itself calls “the sound of the Wolfmother world being rethunk and cracked wide open, with a sprawling, jubilant galaxy of musical and metaphysical harmony spilling forth.” Woah, man!

Am looking so forward to the new album but I notice the song they released in April doesn't appear on the album. What a shame because it's a great song.

Shame on you. This album, and all of Wolfmother's music, is not just an endless derivative of Zeppelin, Sabbath and the like, but an empty copy.
Stockdale is an only vaguely talented wanker and why anyone would want to waste their time on this, THIS, when there is REAL MUSIC out there, is beyond me.
But you are just doing your job and doing as you're told, it's not your fault.

Hey Mitch - here are some words of advice: no one is forcing you to listen to the album.
All of the most popular rock bands are derivative of one band or another, but it's the individuality that you bring to the stage that wins in the end.
And i gotta say that singer Andrew Stockdake is one strange dude that's worthy of the attention.
So tell me, what is this "REAL MUSIC" you speak of?

Mitch. Saying Wolfmother are copies of Led Zep and Sabbath is just a stupid stereotype on the band.
And i'm sure if you went back a bit, you could say that Led Zeppelin copied Jeff Beck and thousands of other blues musicians.
Don't be so ignorant.

Led Zeppelin ripped off so much stuff it ain't funny. I'm a huge Led Zep fan, but I'm not blind (or deaf) to that 'little' detail.
If you're still in denial, then a quick Google search can fix that.
Wolfmother is a culmination of all the great elements of classic metal and stoner rock music. Their sound is derived from a number of bands from that musical era, yes including Zeppelin and Sabbath.

Yeah yeah yeah of course you're all right - Zep and the rest - everyone in music - has a sound derived from SOMEWHERE; but the point you made was exactly mine too - what you do with your influences is what sets you apart.
Wolfmother, or Andrew Stockdale to be more precise, just don't do anything original or progressive with the sound but then m-a-r-k-e-t it as their own.
That, and the fact that many people - radio listeners for one :D - are indeed ignorant enough to believe that this sound is Wolfmother's.
There's nothing wrong with appealing to the lowest common denominator, the point was just that there is much, much better music out there, with real substance, ingenuity, integrity, etc. and because of this it pains me that a band like freaking Wolfmother get so much praise.
Pains me.

Nup. Can't think of any band truly original. In fact, most bands display very little in the way of guitarmanship or skill, so Mitch, i'm interested who you think is so good out there?
As for Led Zep, they personally asked Wolfmother to play Communication Breakdown at their tribute concert. Sounds like a blessing to me.
