Triple M's Higgo tells us why all AC/DC fans need to have this DVD in their collection.
Walking into the Gold Class cinema with a bunch of loyal Triple M listeners to sit down and watch AC/DC’s latest live DVD Live at The River Plate felt good. I knew what I was gunna be in for - great ballsy, bluesy rock by one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever to step foot on stage.
There’s no fancy opening credits, no montage stage set up scenes or backstage warm-ups, just the sound of the crowd before AC/DC launch into "Rock N Roll Train".
I mentioned the crowd, bloody hell.. incredible. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING beats a South American rock show crowd.

As you can see in the BTS footage above Live At The River Plate was filmed in Buenos Aires, Argentina (at River Plate Stadium, derr). Now this is a big arse stadium of 65 thousand capacity, but when you see this DVD, even with the seats lost to stage set up, there has to be close to 80 thousand people there and to see some 30 thousand people on the ground seething and swaying and bouncing throughout nearly the entire set makes it worth the purchase price. It’s almost hypnotic to watch, and simply mind blowing.
It’s understandable too, it’s been 13 years since AC/DC have played in Argentina, and those fans know every single bloody word and sing it at the top of their lungs.
It’s funny to see the similarities between the Black Ice tour here and there, (apart from the stage set up) and that’s the popularity of old songs vs new.
Whilst songs from their Black Ice album are always well received, nothing beats the reaction to classics like "Back in Black", "Dirty Deeds...", "Whole Lotta Rosie" and "Thunderstruck" (see above).
But it’s during "Let There Be Rock" where Angus tears the place a new one, soloing for near 10 minutes, including being raised up above the crowd on a scissor lift, as he was when the tour rolled through here last year that the crowd goes bananas.
It was during that song, and Angus’ solo that something dawned on me, Angus Young has always been the front man of ACCA DACCA, but without that powerhouse rhythm section of Phil Rudd, Cliff Williams and Malcolm Young, they’d be nothing.
Ya gotta remember, these are all guys in the 50’s, and they did not miss a beat, not once. Phil Rudd (ciggie constantly hanging from his gob) is arguably the best 4/4 timed drummer in the known world.
Malcolm Young, despite looking like skeletor in parts, is still the best rhythm guitarist in the world, and Cliff Williams just powers along mercilessly on his bass.. oh, I haven’t forgotten about Brian Johnson.
This is a man who is 64 years of age and is still running up and down their enormous stage set up every night, swinging on a giant bell for the intro of "Hells Bells", and a man who’s rasp is still imitated around the world (I’m yet to hear anyone do it justice).
Look, in a nutshell, it’s AC/DC doing what they do best. I don’t think you’ll see anything you haven’t seen before from the band, but I know any AC/DC fan worth their salt will add this to their collection. It’s AC/DC... it SHOULD be in your collection, simple.

I live in Buenos Aires and I went to this show and I must say that is the best show I went in decades!!!
And I go to see every big show there is, Stones, Metallica, you name it, but AC/DC has something that really exceeds any explanation, a piece of advice: GO AND WATCH THIS DVD NOW, it's the perfect combination of great songs with the best rock and roll band ever and a crowd that is absolutely on fire during the entire show, believe me people that I was there and BEING PART OF THAT WAS AMAZING. I go crazy just thinking about it!!!
