Guns ’N Roses Bizarre Summer Tour Support Selection

Rock, Classic Rock, Glam Rock, Dub-Step… ahhh what’s dub-step?

Image: Getty

The most anticipated tour of the century is off on a great start, kicking off this weekend in Detroit (Rock City) and the tour is accompanied by an epic collection of supports; 80s rock band The Cult, Seattle rock band Alice In Chains, blues rocker Lenny Kravitz, Triple M record of the week band Billy Talent and dub step mega star Skrillex.
What?!?

Yes that’s right the new genre that weeps from your children’s bed room, the confusing new dance sound is appearing on one show in Houston, Texas.

The news had fans blowing up on the internet, we can only imagine the reaction at the shows, we’re expecting a reaaction to the bands 1993 show at Calder Park, Sydney that saw 150,000 rock fans fighting and disgruntled.

Axl Rose is notorious for his eccentric antics and behaviour, but has been surprisingly well behaved on the current tour and his time fronting AC/DC, always been a lover of different and new music we're suspecting this is Axl's doing.

Watch the bands first show on the reunion tour;

We could kinda understand if it was the DJ’s previous band From First To Last, but this is just bizarre.

EXCLUSIVE: The Living End’s Chris Cheney Working On Solo Record

A new ’shift’ in the band after latest album

Image: Getty

On Triple M’s Home Grown, The Living End singer Chris Cheney told Jane Gazzo he’s got a solo record in the works, that he had to put on the back burner to focus on the latest album from the band ‘Shift’; “there’s always songs being written that don’t really feel what the band (The Living End) does, so you either give them to other people or record them”.

With the physical distance between Cheney and the other band members, will Cheney follow in the foot steps of fellow Aussie icon and idol Jimmy Barnes to forge a solo career?

On the sound of his solo efforts; “it’s striped back, completely different to what The Living End does”.

The now L.A based singer has been working with various musicians in Hollywood, including members of Guns ’N Roses, The Stray Cats and The Aggrolites and recorded the Crowded House classic ‘Distant Sun’ solo.

Listen:

When going way back to the beginnings listening to the band 1998 debut single ‘Prisoner Of Society’ Cheney asks Gazzo for a bucket saying “great record but I’ll never listen to it again”, where as bass player Scott Owen adds; “I use to have the same attitude as Chris, but I’ve grown to accept our youth and energy we put into records back in those days”.

Pop Icons Big Feud

Turns out, the rumours were true...

Images: Getty Images

It turns out that the long rumoured "feud" between the late greats, Prince and Michael Jackson, were completely true, if reports from The Mirror are anything to go by.

The English tabloid has released a story claiming to have secretly recorded audio in which Michael Jackson vents against Prince,  calling him "...one of the rudest people I have ever met". Jackson also said that "...he has been very mean and nasty to my family".

Jackson also went on to suggest that Prince was "very competitive" and believed that the Purple One's desperation to outdo him was dangerous.

"He feels like I'm his opponent," Jackson said.

"I hope he changes because boy, he's gonna get hurt. He's the type that might commit suicide or something."

Jackson goes on further, to mock Prince after an infamous stage mishap when performing with both Jackson and James Brown on stage in 1983. In the incident, Prince falls into the crowd after leaning on a prop lamp post. Check it out below, it happens around the 4.40 mark.

Just to add more fuel to this fire, will.i.am appeared on the Graham Norton Show recently to discuss the time he had to play nice between the two icons. It makes for a hilarious story.

Higgo’s Corner 8

Triple M's Higgo throws up three Aussie bands he's loving right now

I wanna lay some home grown thrash on you. If you’re like me, someone who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and you were into heavy music, the thrash genre was pivotal in getting metal to the masses. The Big 4, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax did just that. There’s purists that will argue that the Big 4 should really be the Big 6 or 7, with bands like Exodus, Overkill and Testament paving the way as well, however you shape it, thrash was king back then and influenced so many the world over.

Desecrator is a band I was introduced to in 2011 when I received their Live Til Death album (recorded at The Arthouse) and I played the hell out of it. Their tight live show and ferocious sound hooked me in pretty damn quickly. Now, having seen them live countless times due to their relentless gigging and touring, they’ve established and earned themselves a title as one of Australia’s premiere thrash metal bands. They’ve toured internationally through Europe and Russia (supporting Hirax) and Mexico (supporting Pirana) and are just about to head back to Europe to hit the road with another thrash juggernaut Overkill and sludge doom metal legends Crowbar. They play loud, fast, and faster, leaving nothing on the stage but sweat, blood, and great times. Get on board, follow their youtube channel for updates on the road.
Here’s Red Steel Nation

Harlott from Melbourne absolutely shred. Plain and simple. I bloody love this band. After first seeing them supporting Desecrator, I couldn’t believe that they weren’t already headlining their own gigs. This is the brainchild of Andrew Hudson, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, but take nothing away from this band, they are the real deal, who have been signed to Metal Blade Records for about a year now, toured through Europe with metal legends Annihilator, have a couple of albums under their belt (Origin, Proliferation), and are currently writing their third. Taking cues from the Bay Area scene, this is delicious thrash at it’s very best.
Check out Systematic Reduction

Mason are another thrash metal powerhouse I have a lot of time for. I remember being sent their album Warhead in 2013, and when you get sent a shit load of cd’s, they all kind of morph into one, but one thing I learnt is to listen to them all, regardless of artwork or packaging. Sometimes the flashy looking ones were crap, and sometimes the crappy looking ones were outstanding. Mason’s Warhead album cover let you know exactly what you were getting. It looked evil, it looked furious, and it was. “How had I not heard of these guys? Why isn’t everyone talking about them?” is what I thought. They’re raw, and brilliant. If you see their name on any gig poster, see them, fast. Unmerciful is Mason’s latest EP, here’s one from it called Eradicated.

The metal scene in Australia is thriving. It’s passionate, dedicated, and powerful. Invest a bit of time in discovering new Australian bands and you’ll never look back.

Until next time, keep it loud.

Donuts, Coffee And Trump Ingredients For Bernard Fanning New Record

Triple M’s Ugly Phil’s interview with the Aussie icon Bernard Fanning

Image: Bernard Fanning

Triple M’s Ugly Phil had Record Of The Week artist Bernard Fanning in the Rubber Room off the back of the release of his brand new single ‘Wasting Time’.

The legendary musician who has an incredible 10 year solo career and is well known as the frontman of Powderfinger since the late ‘80s.

‘Wasting Time’ is the new single of Fanning’s double album, ‘Civil Dusk’, that was originally intended on being 1 acoustic and piano based album, talking about the rock sound Fanning told Phil “there ended up being a few more rock songs than I intended to be honest, but they kind of just fall out”.

The album was intended to only be 10 songs, but when he came up with two albums filled with great songs he decided to relaxed a double album and it was to hard to decide what songs to leave off.

On working on piano, Phil asked; “is there more emphasis on the lyrics?”, Fanning replied; “I think so, the last record I stepped away from that so I wanted to move back to songs that their genesis was with timber, with wood, I wanted to make a really natural sounding record”.

Talking about the record ‘Civil Dusk’ Fanning said; “It’s nothing like I’ve ever made before, we didn’t have time limits. We’d get into the studio in the morning, have tea or coffee and a donut and talk about Trump, then we’d move onto an Earth, Wind and Fire video on Youtube for about an hour before doing any work”. This casual approach and the casual location of a ‘make do’ studio in a pool house, rather than an actually music studio gives the new record a fresh and alive sound.

A veteran in the Australian music industry Bernard Fanning reported on the current music industry; “it’s all about singles, I’ve done the opposite and released 20 songs”.

Members:

  • Anty - vocals, korg
  • Jules - guitar
  • Bowie - drums
  • Craig - bass

Formed: 2011 Fitzroy.

Website: www.thebennies.com.au

You have a to love a good time rock party band who started out calling themselves Madonna. (And even put out an album under that name). The jig was up however when the band tried to get onto festival bills and kept being rejected.
Since changing their name to the more appropriate THE BENNIES, (it’s a 60s drug reference) the lads have played in China to 15,000 people (thanks to a mate who was booking groups over there), four tours of Japan, and released some cracking stuff including their recent album WISDOM MACHINE which incorporates every genre from doof, rock and some crazy energy. (See singles Party Machine and Detroit Rock Ciggies). They cite their influences as bands who ‘mash shit up’ – The Clash, Rancid and Sublime.
As one of the local buzz live bands of 2016, THE BENNIES are aiming for world domination. “That’s the plan,” confirms bassist Craig Selak, “Anything less than that would be shooting a bit low!”

Check out their new single; Party Machine

Image: http://www.radiox.co.uk

In today’s WTF of the week, a jar of air from last Saturday’s The Stone Roses gig at Etihad Stadium, Manchester is being sold on eBay.
The air was captured from one of the hottest gigs of the year, the second formation of the cult brit-pop band at the show that saw over 60,000 fans get together for the “once in a lifetime” gig.

Bidding for the world’s most expensive jar of Co2 is up to 90 bids and 65,990 pounds and still has 3 days to go.

The eBay description of the illustrious jar of rock’n’roll goodness according to eBay user ‘frogmas1969’:
"You are bidding on a Jar of air taken at the Stone Roses concert at Manchester Etihad Stadium, Saturday 18th June 2016.
All the atmosphere, anticipation and ecstasy of 60,000 people singing their hearts out – captured forever in this glass jar."

The jar is decorated with the bands logo, venue and date.

See the listing here

The air was captured during a guitar solo, fans believe the air will allow them to re-live the natural high produced when listening to the band.
