All Black Suspended Over Toilet Tryst
The All Blacks have suspended scrumhalf Aaron Smith for one match for misconduct, over an "incident" in a Christchurch airport toilet.
He's admitted to the encounter three weeks ago, involving a woman who wasn't his girlfriend. He was wearing his All Blacks dress uniform at the time.
Witnesses say he spent 5-10 minutes in the disabled toilet cubicle with the woman, and the noises being made left "no doubt" as to what was going on inside.
One witness wrote to the New Zealand Herald about it, saying Smith came out of the toilet after a few minutes, straightening his uniform.
“About a minute later the young lady comes out of the same toilet cubicle looking equally suspicious. I myself did not have a problem with this ... my wife however is protesting that this is disgusting for a public figure to do this."
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says the incident only came to the team's attention this week, and Smith is now heading home from South Africa to deal with personal issues arising as a result.
“Clearly Aaron is bitterly disappointed in his behaviour and feels he has let the team down but just as importantly he feels bitterly disappointed in letting his family and his partner down,” Hansen said.
