Picture this. Sicily, 1922. Young Greg Wood is on a holiday in Europe when his parents are brutally murdered by the local mafia.
Swearing revenge, Woody decided to fight injustice wherever it occurs the only way he knows how - by announcing on Triple M Brisbane.
Woody can't back any of this up - but it is what he likes to tell people at parties.
Instead, imagine a high school student in 1988, armed with a season pass to Expo, dressed in his finest acid wash jeans and hyper colour T shirt, and dreaming of a career in radio.
Walking over the Victoria Bridge to the FM 104 Shop in the Myer Centre, our young Woody stops at Brashs to have a look at the latest new release albums, looking forward to the day his mate buys them so Woody can 'high speed dub" them onto some TDK tapes he just bought.
Tapes rule!
From there, lunch at Hungry Jacks in the Queen St Mall and then down to "Las Vegas", the pinball arcade on Albert St to blow a couple of 20c pieces. (In my day you used to be able to play games all day for 20c, and still have enough money to take the tram to the beach and buy a Cornetto and a Freddo Frog.)
One day, this high school student grew up, moved to just about every corner of Queensland only to find his way back home to Brisbane and to the radio station he dreamed of one day working for.
Woody is still that high school kid, but thankfully the hyper colour T-Shirt and acid wash jeans are gone (along with 20c video games, blank tapers and the FM104 Shop).
Now, just like you, he has a mortgage, pets, emerging grey hairs, an almost illegal love of rugby league, cricket & rugby union and dreams of winning Gold Lotto.
Until his lotto numbers come up, you'll hear Woody on Triple M play a stack of songs that remind you of your own bad fashion, tight pants and mullet, your first car and Freeps concerts.
Ahhh, the memories!
