Ablett Jr Wins 2009 Brownlow Posted by Triple M Footy 22 September, 2009 - 1:50 AM

After two years of heartbreak, Gary Ablett has finally taken Charlie home.

Narrow Brownlow misses to Jimmy Bartel and Adam Cooney in 2007 and '08 respectively, had most of the Crown Palladium gunning for Ablett Jr.

With a series of dominant performances, Ablett stormed away with the medal, finishing eight votes clear of Carlton captain, Chris Judd.

As his third Grand Final in as many years loom, some are saying that a win, and dare we suggest, a Norm Smith medal, could well cement Ablett Jr as the finest midfielder the game has ever seen.

Where do you rank Ablett Jr among the all-time greats? And would you let him loose at your BBQ? Watch the video above before answering that one...

To think that he might have finished these three years with 3 flags and 3 Brownlows, I can't think of a better player in the last 20 years.

He's a superstar... I still reckon Greg WIlliams was a better player. Diesel was a machine.

Gary jnr is a great player, I don't think he is the greatest ever.. People need to remember he is playing in an midfielders era of footy which is a very high possession game so players getting close to 40 touches each week isn't as special as it used to be, don't let statistics fool you. He was the best player possibly over the 3 years but the greatest ever is a big call.

I 100% agree with Dez, sure he is a great player but you cannot compare across era's of football. The game has changed so much even in the past 15 years to say he is the greatest ever is a claim that would be very hard to back. Besides it wouldnt be the first time i have heard players been referred to as the greatest ever!!
