Scott Watters is calling for a mid-season draft and he outlined why on the Triple M Hot Breakfast on Thursday.
The St Kilda coach says that, like all AFL clubs, he wants the Saints to be able to complete on a level playing field even if major injury issues strike key players.
“Most international competitions have something like this and I think it’s something we need to consider,” Watters said.

Eddie And The AFL At Odds Over Video Reviews Post by: Triple M Footy 23 May, 2012 - 5:24 PM

Eddie McGuire has been running a campaign against the AFL over what he says is its faulty goal-umpiring review system.
The Triple M Hot Breakfast host has previously said the way the system is handled will ultimately see the AFL wind up in court.
Earlier this week McGuire revealed the reason the video review system was ditched after it had been called for during Collingwood's clash with Geelong was a cord being kicked out in the umpires' room (image from the scene, sort of, below).
On Wednesday, McGuire got his chance to take his grievances to the AFL directly, with Operations Manager Adrian Anderson joining the program in the studio.
Anderson, in an at times very heated debate, told Triple M the results after eight rounds of footy in relation to the review system are
- 36 reviews from 72 matches
- 40 seconds per review
- In 22 of the 36 reviews the vision has been conclusive
- In 14 reviews it hasn't been conclusive
- 4 cases that were wrong that have been corrected

Rory Sloane To Stay A Crow, Cloke's Dad Blowing It Post by: Triple M Sport 23 May, 2012 - 2:20 PM
It just gets better for the flying Adelaide Crows with reports this week suggesting Rory Sloane and Patrick Dangerfield will commit to the club.
Tredders said on Triple M on Wednesday it’s now just Kurt Tippett the second-placed Crows need to secure.
The Triple M Hot Breakfast host also said Port Adelaide should look at getting Matt Rendell to the club as a recruiter and discusses the latest speculation on Travis Cloke.
Tredders says Cloke needs to get someone other than his father, David Cloke, to manage him - and quick!

Injury Blows For Blues, Hawks, Tigers And Pies Post by: Triple M Footy 21 May, 2012 - 4:58 PM

TUESDAY: Carlton has revealed Marc Murphy will miss even longer than expected after undergoing surgey on his injured shoulder on Monday night.
"Murphy had (an) operation and did not require screw to repair shoulder," the Blues said.
"(He) will be in sling for 4 weeks and will miss 8 to 10 weeks."
MONDAY: Carlton and Hawthorn have both received bad news on Monday with scans on Blues midfielder Marc Murphy's shoulder revealing a broken bone and Hawks skipper Hodge being told he will miss another month.
There has also been some injury updates from Richmond and Collingwood that will concern those clubs' fans.
Murphy was injured in a clash with Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield in the Blues' loss on Sunday.
The scans confirmed a fracture to one of the bones in Murphy's shoulder and he will have arthroscopic surgery on Monday to investigate the extent of the damage.
"We will not have an accurate indication of how long Marc will be out of action until the surgery is performed however we do know he will not be available until after our bye in round 13," said Carlton General Manager Football Operations, Andrew McKay.
Meanwhile, Hodge's left knee has been reassessed by Hawthorn after it did not respond as expected for a low grade knee injury.
"The initial assessment was of a low grade sprain of his posterior cruciate (PCL) and medial ligaments," said Hawthorn.
"The progress of his recovery and subsequent reassessment would suggest the PCL injury is of a medium grade and Hodge is likely to be unavailable for a further 3-4 weeks."
In other injury news, Richmond's Dylan Grimes will also miss a month after injuring his left hamstring midway through the second quarter of the clash against Essendon.
The Tiger told the club's website: "At this stage, it's a bit hard to tell, but I think, from what they're saying, it's going to be 3-4 weeks, depending on how quickly things are able to settle down and how quickly I'm able to advance in the rehab program."
Finally, Collingwood stars Dane Swan and Ben Reid will miss two weeks of football after they were injured in Friday night's thrilling win over Geelong.
Swan went down in the early stages of the final term with a hamstring injury with the scan indicating it was a strain, Collingwood says.
Reid also went down in the final term after straining a quadricep, an injury which has caused him to miss two matches this year.

Essendon failed to have Leroy Jetta's striking charge thrown out and he will miss a week.
UPDATE: Essendon's Leroy Jetta will contest his striking charge at the AFL Tribunal, but the Bombers star has accepted a reprimand for staging.
All other sanctions (see below) have been accepted.
EARLIER: Essendon's been dealt a blow after Leroy Jetta became the first AFL player ever to be charged with staging during the second quarter of the game against Richmond.
He was also charged with striking in the same match and offered a one-match ban for that incident.
In other charges, the Western Bulldogs face losing Dylan Addison for a game (striking) while Brent Harvey, and Jackson Trengrove received reprimands for incidents from the Port Adelaide game against North Melbourne.

The Adelaide Crows' surge up the AFL ladder continued on the weekend, and once again Patrick Dangerfield had a blinder!
The Crows are now second on the ladder after eight rounds, having smashed Carlton on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.
